My dad is currently thinking about getting a mondeo 130 spec tdci for my mum to replace her bm.
What goes wrong on these? I've heard all sorts of stories about clutches flywheels, injectors etc.
can people shed light and anyone who has had problems let me know about them.
Ive seen them for around the 3700-4500 mark with good miles.
The other contender was a golf mk4 gt tdi 150. id rubbished this in the past as i never really liked the look of a golf mk4 unless it was decked on bbs's and a petrol turbo but after going in my mates one last night i am converted. only issue is they are from 4.5k to 9k which is a little steep for one with low miles. They also arent as big for the dog and us lot which was why I was swaying towards the mondeo.
let me know what you guys think anyway

the Duel Mass Flywheel can go meaning a new one and whilst your there you may as well put a new clutch in, 1st signs of this is when the starter motor spins up with out engaging the flywheel ring, meaning bits of metal have clogged the starter. £350-£1000+ depending who does it for you, mine cost £1000+ but i used Ford only parts and got a good waranty on it.
Injectors can start to playup meaning new ones, then they need reprograming,as of yet i think only a ford place can do this although im not sure on that one, budget for about £250 each injector.
Rear subframe bushes can go, nowadays you can just buy the bushes, not sure how much, but have *heard* on here someone say about £300 fitted??
rear suspension can give issues sometimes.
Water can leak from the rear hatch.
Washer pumps can pack up.
My only problems ive had/have is flywheel and washer pump (realy need to get that washer pump fixed)

Rear subframe bushes ( if so get Powerflex as there only 80-90 apposed to 300) are the main problem, They can have injector problems, and clutches.
Ive just replaced the turbo on mine, and thats not cheap,
Sized rear calipers / handbrake cable is another common problem
Injectors ive found for a complete set 450

If you look at the number sold against the number with problems. they're a safe bet.
Lots of taxi firms use them these days they're so reliable
Lots of car for the money, considering how new you can get one
I bought a 3 year old 130 tdci ghia x estate 18 months ago for £6k with 35k on the clock and I thought i was doing ok, even cheaper now.
I still chuckle when I see the receipt for £26500 in my file of paperwork

Had the above probs this year-
Qouted 108 for starter from adrew page, never tried getting a price anywhere else.
Had a flywheel, clutch and hydraulic bearing fitted 2 months ago, came to 550ish
Injectors, cars there as I write this. 98plus vat recon with 12months warranty
Plenty of places to reprog- 50 in the hand is going rate.

missus has got an 02 plate.mondy derv wiv 110,000 on it and so far in the last 4 years i've changed the fly wheel, clutch and slave cylinder.rear subframe exchange from ford was 120 squids (trade).rear calipers and cables and the water pump.we tow a 19.5 foot caravan all year round and have found it a better tow car than my old mitsi truck.were lookin to change this year and would definitly buy another one.

Mines a 54 plate TDCi 130 high on the miles now with 96k because I rack up a fair bit of mileage but I bought it with a full test just after Xmas with 87k on for £2500...
Absolutly love it as well; I was gonna sell it and get something else as I chop and change my cars regulary, but I can't find anything that I would really be satisfied with over the Mondeo yet, not unless I up my budget a bit, which i'm too stingy to do
