Concorde...
Yeah i watched a documentary on it, it said without the computers it would be unflyable as there constantly monitoring and changing things. that was the main thing the display pilot raved about when i spoke to him, he said the computers/electronics make it possible for you to do ridiculous manouvers, he also said the human body stops it showing its full potential as the plane can do a lot more than he or any other pilot could cope with, and the pilot is deffinatly the weak link in a eurofighter in his opinion. i asked how it compared to older planes like the tornado etc, he reckons if you tried some of the turns the eurofighter can do in a tornado, it would rip the wings off.

Think pilots have been the weak link for years with regards to fighter planes
there has been a program on discovery sci over the last couple of weeks about how they have been getting concorde up to spec for passing the tests
one of them did pass the test just before 911 then it all went backward
so there is nothing stoping them from having another bash at it

I was at the air museum in sommerset last year and the concord was in there.I walked inside expecting to see loads of seats. It was just full of computers and gauges.

There was also this there too.

i used to work a for Nasmyth an engineering company and we done a lot for the aviation industry and Airbus. when i was at Farnborough in 2006 speaking to the french airbus designers of the A380 (who looked like they should be designing clothes for a catwalk than planes) they were saying how much the bottom line was more people and more eco friendly and beat Boeing 747. as it hadnt had a challenger really. also people want comfort and luxury not speed.. though the funniest well not really was the fact the major problems they had with the fuel system on the A380. Our company would get a book too as do the others of problem and faults with planes. fuck reading i did about 10 pages and it made me not want to get on one

I work for the Nasmyth group too

nope concorde 002 was the first brit built one to fly, it was the one they used for all the testing and accumulating all the performance data, it still has all the datalogging equipment inside and has been at Yeovilton Fleet Air arm Museum since I was at least 12, i'm now 31.

Looking at where the Concordes are resting, i see the yanks have got a few on display, quite happy to display them but wouldnt let them fly them in their airspace,
they lost the ability to carry passingers but can still fly as they have to be test beds for modifications to tget the cert back
one was fully done ready to the standard it needed to be then 911 happened & everthing got put on hold

As Daz said, the flagship of the whole British airways fleet G-BOAC now rests at the aviation veiwing park at manchester airport,
Also as Daz said they have just had a fook off hanger built for her so she is now out of the rain, every month or so they do a tour of it where you can go inside it, Think it costs about 25 quid each.
i might have a run up this sunday cos a nice virgin atlantic airbus is coming in lol and no im no plane geek i just like big fook off flying things lol

I worked on this plane as far back as 1967 & visited 002 during its build, a great achievement for its day but never an economic possibility, its passenger carrying capabilities was near a joke . Beaten by its noise it could not fly super sonic over land even in this country thus blunting its aim. Like me its a thing of the past & best forgotten, looks great, but a bit of a dud as time proved.

Was class to actually see one in real life. Ill post a picture up later when i get home if i remember
when i worked at heathrow in 2000, concorde used to take of twice a day at 1030 and at 1700
seeing as our building was next to the runway (westramp coach park) it was about as close as you could get, and yes, it used to shake the building
never got tired of it though
closest you'll get to it now is hearing the jet car at santa pod

Just to add my tuppence. I'm pretty sure there is no Concorde at Heathrow.
Furthermore, the official last flight of Concorde (where all the press were with the cameras) was not actually the last flight of Concorde from Heathrow as another flew off to Bristolish area 2 days later.
I was sitting in a van as it taxi'd past to the runway (used to run plant on and off the airport). It really was an amazing piece of kit and the sound was amazing, glad I had earplugs that day !

G-BOAB is parked up at LHR, last time i noticed it it was parked up at the BA engineering hangers.
My "view" as to why it was not allowed to fly across the states supersonic is that the sonic booms damage properties etc. THey were not allowed to fly across any land (that I can think of) super sonic.
I was reading the skunk works book and they said when an sr71 "flamed out" they had to lose altitude to re-start the engine. When it fired back up and they went super sonic over some state of america, they damaged MULTIPLE buildings, knocked over a chimney stack of a factory and two people died from the falling rubble. Can you blame them for not wanting that day in day out?
Concorde is unreal and the ones I know of - Heathrow, Manchester and one in east fortune air museun south of Edinburgh.
Cheers
RW
