Simon himself has joked about the SECS saga in the past. So I thought it was 'fair game' and pretty funny...
anyway. No harm done... (if Maria is not offended that is)
and now I know its still such a sore point for Simon. I will make sure I never poke fun at it again.

have you called him or confronted him yet Will? whats he saying?
You could ask for a percentage of each deal or service or whatever it is he is doing as you introduced him to whatever business it is?
at least make him squirm for a bit!

I don't want to.... It has not got to this point yet, but I want him to see why I feel a bit pissed off, he is my best mate but I wouldn't tread on his toes in this way, all of us need a bit of extra cash, but he has a windowcleaning round, and does a bit of sparkying alongside his normal job, and I would never dream of going to his customers houses trying to under cut him etc

What Simon said made me laugh out loud. I don't see how it was harsh on Maria. If I 'dumped' someone, as Simon put it, and then someone had a go at them, I wouldn't care.

... the % thing wouldn't really work as it is quite Niche' , and is literally only a few extra quid here and there to help pay some of the cosworth bills 
... In a way he is right it IS a free country, but I just feel a bit sad that it is going this way

Come on, everyone knows deep down if they ripped someone off. You can't lie to yourself.
I think to the OP, I'd be annoyed at myself for not keepng my mouth shut in the first place. Especially if it this person could EASILY copy it and get all the contacts in place.
Bit like going to Shell and saying "I've inented a way to make Oil supplies produce even more fuel. You do XYZ, and one day I'm going to patent it and make money from it"

No I do it quite often, and will continue to do so, but I trusted him enough to come with me when I dropped in to the company I use, and now he has seen where I use he is now doing what I do
... Bit rude if you ask me, but there you go...

Of course this depends on the type of business and a WHOLE load of other things. I would probably have just 'recommended' you to them, but as its a niche market as you put, maybe that wouldnt be an option?
