I had a new alternator fitted today, I collected the car, and parked it down the road from the garage, came back 2 hours later, and when i pulled off there is an almighty screeching,

Is this just that the belt is not tight enough on the alternator?

 

more than likely not tight enough; just give the belt a prod and you should have a bit bounce bounce, but not baggy

Usually a sign it is not tight enough, think it shows up more in these damp conditions (ooh err!)
