Focus RS.. and reliability.
Currently got an o2 plate Civic Type R. Great car but a little bored of it to be honest.
Was contemplating getting a Focus RS as they can be had for good money these days (10k ish).
Only ever been in one that had a lot of work done.. went well.
What are these like as standard as dont plan on changing it? Fuel ecomony compared to type R? and lastly are the reliable assuming regular maintenance.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
Iv had mine for 4 years now it was a daily drive for 2 of them and i have had no problems what so ever. When mine was running 280bhp i got 260 miles to a tank. With work being a 3 mile drive.

it will be used daily and kept in a public train station car park... Touch wood, the Type R hasnt been touched.. I would say that both have equal nickabiliy appeal..?
definately a tough one, but I want a turbo again.. Dont get me wrong the Jap car is good, super reliable but just extremely boring if you know what I mean...

West side you need an FRS in your life trust me!
Bought mine in nov and wouldnt give it up. My sis is selling her evo 8 FQ300 CHEAP and i could swap and make money but i love the focus
Mine has dreamscience and full exhaust. Driven daily i'm doing 230-260 miles to a tank which is 10 gallons useable of 12(55litre).
Feels great to have a useable ford that looks great, is nice to drive and reliable as hell. It has great useable power or you can toddle along.
Honestly, maybe its now beating my MI16 205 as my best and favourite car owned!!

I have done around 20,000 miles in mine over almost 3 years and it has been faultless. It gets serviced by ford every year and that bar petrol is the only running costs. The focus rs is not in the same unreliability league as old fords, so dont be thinking its like an old RS Turbo.

cant see anyone getting 260 miles to a tank just doing journeys of 3 miles...stop start all the time, this has been a topic on rsoc in the past and i cant remember anyone getting that sort of milage unless a long journey has been added.
get the rs, gets so many looks everytime i drive it...what a great buzz you get.

if your planning on keeping the FRS standard then you will be bored of this straight away, if your bored with the civic IMO
my mate has one hes now on re-build number 3 wether its down to the FRS is questionable

Westy,
I like the Focus RS but....
Get an ST, less of an eye catcher, Ideal for public parking unless its orange..LOL
Just as tunable if not more standard potential over the RS, Cheaper, more modern...LOL

Simon is right, the ST is a far better daily used car. Its more comfortable and better built than the RS.

FRS is perfectly reliable as a daily runner however that does depend on how well its been looked after by its previous owners. Admittedly there are some bargains out there but there are also some real heaps on the market as well
Bear in mind also that due to falling prices on the FRS that a lot of the "standard" cars that are for sale in the classifieds are actually previously modified cars that have been returned to standard & the aftermarket bits sold on seperately - not all of them will have been returned to standard that well either
At the moment & in most cases you can pick up an average FRS with basic mods (exhaust/filter/chip/etc) for circa Ł10k or less although there are still people out there who think their car is worth Ł14k+
Allow for about 250 miles from a tank with average driving

Is it just me that think a focus RS is FAR more of a target to the scum than a CTR. CTR's are everywhere and nothing special anymore.
A focus RS is pretty rare in comparison and i would have thought would be targeted if as Westy says, left in train station car parks all day long????
I agree the ST would be a better daily driver in that they are less rare, more modern inside but personally think they will keep dropping in price. The RS on the other hand if kept nice, being a limited run will retain a decent level of value.
I am in the same boat as you Westy, I own a CTR and want a change, but, given that it is great to drive, reliable and can be left anywhere, I am finding it hard to justify letting the damn thing go.
If i do by something else, then I think it may well be an ST, but only if i grab a bargain as I think this is more on a par to the CTR in terms of dailer runner that aint the end of the world if it gets bent, damaged, knicked or mikes slapped on it.
One other thing, the RS really needs to be looked after, but left in carparks regualarly it will pick up dents and scratches so will need paint loosing originality and also that blue will show up every dint or scratch.

I sold my CTR to buy a FRS. I used both as daily drivers and the FRS is better IMO. I did 60K in mine in three years and it never missed a beat. Totally standard, super reliable and pretty economical also.
Nothing wrong with the CTR but just not as 'special' as the Focus.
