Default bloody rs500 :wall:

well what can i say but its been a pain in the arse..

the car came off the road in November due to it just cutting out, we didn't really have time to check the car over etc till a few weeks ago. I changed the map sensor, ignition amp, rotor arm and put new ignition leads on. Cranked it over and it started perfectly and ran nice and smooth. The car stayed on the stands as i was polishing it etc, and took a while as i was doing abit here and there.. the car finally got polished and looked superb.. so down comes the car the day before a SFS show (which the 500 won the last 2 years)..the old man had to go out to get some nuts and bolts from bunnings (b&q), he gets his gear and then heads to come home, starts the car fine and drives out the car park and then the car splutters and cuts out at the lights.. dad pushes it back into the car park and tries starting it, petrol is low so dad calls me to bring him petrol so i dow, we put the petrol in and still no luck. we mess with the rotor arm and dizzy and it fired up. All seemed good. Got home, loaded up ready for the show and the car started fine and ran sweet. # miles down the road the car splutters and comes to a halt again.. we get it into a service road and piss around with the dizzy etc in a 35 degree heat and with the engine being red hot. We check over everything and as were not that stupid we took some tools along with us just in case. So were there baffled thinking what it could be, we check the phase sensor and the wires have deteriorated, so we try and make a good connection and finally we did, the car fired up and we made it home, we knocked the idea of the show on the head as the car was being temperamental. Jacked it up changed the phase sensor, coil, crank sensor, coolant temp sensor, and the brown sensor in the plenum. tried turning it over and the thing would not start at all and appeared to try and run backwards we spent hours checking and rechecking the the components..and in the end we finally found out the problem as i asked Harvey..

now do any of you have any ideas of what could have been the problem?? pop quiz.. answer to be divulged later on

This may be a lesson to someone else who has been pissing around for hours and hours.

the crank pos sensor was on back to front,or not pushed fully home so it sometimes made a connection.

What I want to know though.

Why bother trying to find a solution to a problem that no longer exists?

I had a similar fault on my car.It would drive for about 5 mins then cut out.It would crank and crank and wouldnt run.If i left it 5 mins it would start.I changed the fuel filter cause when i tipped the old fuel out of the filter it was like guinness (the beer) it just trickled out.
