Default Message from the Ambulance Service

No an exclusively car related post, but an excellent idea I think you’ll agree..

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).. The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call.

He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as 'ICE'. Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc

Not being funny but I.C.E I want the paramedic to fix me first before worrying about making a long distance call to my sister in Oz.

Why does this read & sound very much like one of those "circular" emails that normally get sent to your works email address by every staff employee clicking the "forward" button and saying "pass it on"

For the same reason why you give your employer your next of kin number or when you fill the back of your passport in etc, you use the number of the person you would like informed first of an accident,
if you work for a refrigeration company then ya fucked unless you have an accident between 9am and 5pm.

Both my parents mobile numbers and home telephone number are stored under ICE, had it that way for a few years, only takes a moment to edit it and I don't lose sleep over having it that way, its a good idea in my opinion.

the idea is sound in principle, but i don't think it would work in the real world, mainly because who's going to be looking for your phone if you are sitting in a pool of blood?

Perhaps we should all put passionford.com under ICE instead of a phone number

I'm sure a select few would rather it was posted on the internet that they have just been mown down by a bus

hospital staff etc, its not meant to be there so the people on the scene of the emergency can ring your mam/dad before they commence working on your injured body, its to allow your next of kin to be called when youre at the hospital.

As with anything, if youre a twisty whinging cunt dont bother using it.

and a suprising brummie story for ya, a lad i know got knocked over by a bmw piloted by afghans down the races, and we watched in horror as a pile of africans ran towards his unconscious body to loot him, but he was in such a bad way even they felt bad, and put all his stuff back in his pockets for him! lol. hes ok now too, which is a bonus i guess

but are they going to be looking for "ICE" rather than "MUM" or DAD" though?
that's the question

i recal a story of some bloke, who shall remain nameless to spare his blushes, who got done over by a few meanies who then left him laying on a park bench like a pissed up tramp, they even took his shoes and socks and bits of clothing to make it look more convincing
