not getting your paper licence changed for a photocard licence??

im sure ive heard that somewhere?

I got stopped by the police on random checkpoint and my driving licence is cracked and hard to read my Date of birth and she told me it was a criminal offense and she could fine me. She didnt she just said get it replaced.

NO - Theres no legal obligation to change your old paper licence for a photocard and counterpart.

They do it as a matter of course if you change address, but other than that, the old style paper licence is as "legal" as the new style.

yes you can ended up in court myself as i refused to hand my paper license in at the station when i got a 7 dayer

wasnt charged or anything just fined lol

all becuse i have my paper licence framed due to my naughty younger days ,have seperate attachment to list my bans,points etc lol

Refusing to hand it in when requested is totally different and is a criminal offence, simply not wanting to send it off just to get a photo card one is not illegal, but is actually quite a usefull id that most places will accept, but no it's perfectly legal to have one.

I got grief at the police station as my paper lisence is still at my mums place but the insurance is at mine. I pointed out that the car was registered at my mums address and that was where it is stored. They said as long as I was contactable through the address they weren't worried.

As far as I'm aware you cant use your old paper licence abroad. I need to sort mine out anyhows...I sellotaped it back together back in 2001 as it fell apart whilst working abroad, and the address is also around five year out of date As is all the convictions

Photocard ones are only valid for 10 years and you have to pay to renew aswell the cheeky bastards, the paper one is valid for yonks!

i recently got 3 points for speeding and when i sent i the old paper one to get the points added they said i must get a new photo one within a year else the license is revoked
