I know I really wanted one at age 19 but was taking home a little over a ton a week so it was way out of my reach, not to mention the insurance premiums which were too
but the thing with the 500 is its a 500, the cosworth holy grail, and now they are getting rare and holding their money, not many cars can do that, testament of their legendary status and the love that people have for them, me included I'd have one tomorrow if the funds permitted it but unfortunately they don't

There is a RS500 close to where i live and its in a right bad state.
Seen it not so long ago lying in this guys back yard and its out in the weather all the time with cats sleeping on the roof. Its in a poor state
Wont be long before it starts rotting to pieces

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Paul, Ive asked before and had no reply,
How certain are you that you know of all the 500's left, and of your knowledge/expertise of the 500's, is it simply by being a massive fan of the model that took it to that extra level of being a registrar, and finally what qualifies you to be a registrar, is that 'title' official?
Not be an arse, just genuinely interested,
Cheers

I 100% do NOT know exactly how many 500"s are left , Nobody can possible answer that question
I know how many are registered with the RSOC ( Just over 100 )
New unknown cars turn up at a rate of aprox 4 per year since i have been the Reg .
I would quess aprox 200 to 250 are still alive , but impossible to say .
With regards being a registrar , I am just a fan who knows quite a bit about them , and with being in the RS motor trade helps
Being a registrar is an official position within the RSOC , and what qualifies me for the position is nothing more than my knowlage of the car and the fact i wanted to do it .
I dont claim to know everything ( no reg does ) but we know enough and what we dont know we find out

I would LOVE a 500, my dream car!! I can afford a nice one in about 3years if my plan comes good, hence why my S2 has taken a bit longer than it should!
All I need now is a double garage! Trouble being I would just spend all night in there rubbing myself red raw!
Black is the only colour I would consider!

Because 500"s dont have 500 on the logbook how could they tell
the only way would be to give them a list of every chassie number , but even then how many are sat in barns / garages etc that have been forgot about and even DVLA couldnt be sure if they still exist
Plus DVLA wouldnt tell you anyway

I'd crack a guess at Motormania which is part of the Sterling Furniture place.
Been there years ago and loads of unusual metal in there, can't remember a 500 though.

At Dover in the Customs compound there used to be a white Rs500 just
sitting there rotting away in all weather. It never moved for around 3yrs.
The compound was used to store vehicles that either had no road tax or
had been used for bringing in illegal substances.
If the vehicles could be brought back to factory spec they were usually
auctioned but if they had been modded for drug smuggling then they got
crushed.
Not sure if the Rs is still there as i left the company i worked which had a
warehouse next door.
I may have to pop up & see if its still there.
