FAO Thrush / Iphone geeks please...
Just got myself a A1203, its an unlocked iphone.. was being used on orange.
anyway got it home saved all my mates numbers and pics that was on it as he wants them back, then i went to the reset option and erase all content and settings.. after this was done i had to put a o2 sim in and plug into itunes to ativate... now when i remove the o2 sim i can use the phone (well all the features apart from phone) but when i put my orange sim in it tells me to plug back into itunes and doesnt let me do anythin, then obviously get get the msg about the wrong sim.
so have i ruined it? lol and if the iphone is unlocked can i not use itunes anymore?
any help?
(sorry bout the geeks bit lol)

When you "pwn" an iphone to use on a different network, you shouldn't do it with an O2 sim in it - you need to do it with either no sim or with the sim you intend to use - in your case Orange.
The procedure should be as following (been a while since I did mine)
Put O2 sim in phone, connect to USB and open iTunes. Hold SHIFT and click RESTORE and choose the custom firmware you downloaded with QuickPWN or WinPwn - restore to this.
After iTunes has restored it, DON'T continue with the setting up process. Just close iTunes down, and remove the sim from the phone, and put your orange one in.
Run Quick/WinPwn and follow the prompts to unlock and jailbreak it.
When the "Pwn" process modifies the baseband modem firmware, if it finds an acceptable sim in it (ie, O2) it does nothing as it doesn't see a problem. If it see's a "rejected" sim it modifies the baseband modem firmware accordingly.
After it's finished the PWNing process, open iTunes and continue the set up - iTunes shouldn't have a problem with it and report the correct phone number on the info page.

well thats what i did lol
the iphone took an update when i first plugged it in, then after i reset the iphone and it went to locked mode letting me only do emergency numbers if i put my orange sim into it, it recognised the sim and would let me dial numbers, then i put the o2 sim in and activated it on itues hopeing when done i could stick me orange sim in a would be fine.. not the case tells me to connect to itunes again until orange sim is removed.

By the sounds of it, you didn't PWN it - which means you didn't unlock it.....
You need to upgrade it to 2.2 firmware in iTunes, or if it's already on 2.2, you need to download the files on this page, and follow the instructions (and the ones I gave you a few posts up)
http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1880
You can't just restore it to standard in iTunes and stick a different sim card in, as it's still locked to O2 - as all iPhones are.....
