mk6 escort 1.8 zetec wont turn over
evening all, just want your opinions. A R reg escort 1.8 si, slowly got worse takin a few turns of key to start then after while just wouldnt turn over at all. I was gettin power going down the signal wire and constant power down main power cable. Touch a wire on the signal wire connector of starter and then touch it on battery and it would turn over. I have changed the battery, starter motor, new key, and had tried ignition barrel and the main metal steering column surround part (sorry dont know the name). Car was starting if u put screwdriver in ignition switch which is why we changed the column surround as we thought the linkage from barrel to switch maybe wasnt turning enough. Anyway, car then worked fine using key in the ignition barrel, for about a day. Then it died again and now wont even turn over from puttin screwdriver into ignition switch.
Car does have a aftermarket alarm i must add, a clifford falcon II i think its called. Could next step be to rip this out somehow?? or could it be my fuse box playing up? That same day we got car goin then it died again, the electrics all died at a few times, but then u would hear a relay click and everything would come back to life, and they still work now, just the car wont turn over.
Could it be a bad main earth?? Me and my mates are really confused over this one. Any help would greatly be appreciated
cheers, mike
