As title..

I am after a cheap laptop that is running XP, as i need it for Vagcom. Dont care what it looks like as log as it has a USB port on it......this is the ONLY thing i will be using it for as i have a decent laptop which i use at home and for work.

Looking to spend about £50ish..........

If not, i will get a free laptop when i upgrade my phone and i will have to remove Vista and fit XP.......would rather not if anyone has a cheapo one about

where you getting your usb cable from?

i had no end of trouble using usb cables from ebay so got a serial lead from ebay for £10 which has given me no trouble.

I already have 2 versions of Vagcom with leads.......But realised they wnt work with XP........

yeah it's all a bit of a minefield getting the right bits of software and drivers working together but well worth it once working!

its a program you can download for free so you can access fault codes and get live data from you vw!

I have tried EVERYTHING to get it to run on Vista and it wont have it at all........unless i pay £260 for the vista version........

Hmmm, was reading up about ver 409 today, which is the one I need for my a3 1.8T agu (well I got it off the net today, just need the right cable) and someone had said they got it working on vista with the comp mode on '98. All new to me this obd stuff!!

I hunted through alot of the VW/Audi sites and they all said i wouldnt work......i FEW people said they got it to work somehow but they never got back to help me......

I just thought that if i got a cheapo Laptop just for Vagcom that will save the hassle of downgrading to XP.....

Install XP on your existing Vista Laptop and you can dual boot between the 2

i too am desperate for a cheap laptop my my daughters as they go ont he ceebebies websites etc, all it needs to do is go on the net wireless, i might even have a wifi pcmcia card somewere if it doesnt have wifi

only wanted to spend a ton tops on one, it will only get trashed, there a nightmare but then there 3 and 6. i have to buy em a new one on average evry 6 months lol

It is this guy of E-Bay....He tests each and every cable to see that they work, it is also the 16 pin one, as i bought a cable that only had 4 pins in it....

tiff you do realise you could make one of thos for prob 6 quid and a little soldering, i would imaging the schematics for the cable are easily available
