There were some, infact mayby only one which competed in the 1991-1992 BTCC season, just after Group A was banned. They used NA engines (YB's i think) in order to conform with the new regs, and were not very succesful at all.

HTH

Cheers,

Agar

After winning the 1990 BTCC Championship in a RS500, Rob Gravett competed less successfully in his Trackstar Sapphire finishing 11th with 28 points in the 1991 BTCC Championship

this is why the sapp will never be looked at the same level as 3 doors/500 and the escos's and and such will never be as valued because they have no racing/rallying pedigree

Given there were about 5 times as many Sapphire Cossies made than 3doors, and about 2 times as many Sapphires vs EsCos, not entirely surprising the Sapp costs less. Supply and demand or something.

When you see how successful has the escort been, and when you know most of it came from the sapphire, well, just imagine with few more years and development what it would have become ! Actually the sapphire has been very successful in national rallies, more in group N than group A class, but still won few national championships ! I have the list somewhere, will find it and post it there, to give some credits to that old lady !

I think it´s the same car. If true, this Sapphire Cosworth runned in my place (Circuit Vila do Conde, Portugal) during the year 1994. The car was drived by Carlos Rodrigues.
