Rods are identical, If you need any spare rods drop me a line I have a couple spare you can have.

Pistons are different, 4x4 has an offset gudgeon pin so stops the 2wd piston slap when it is cold, I would use 4x4 pistons if you can.

rods are different there is a "light" and a "heavy" rod, difference being the counter weight above the little end,so make sure you have a match set, also the 4wd pistons have a different size bowl in the piston which will effect yout compression ratio, persoanly I what ever pistons you use gets them decked and bowled oout the decking will avoid any pistion to valve contact which all cossy engines had even from new,so you will get even more conatact as your head will have been skimmed at some point

Good info Pete. Reading the Cosworth manual, apparenly the rods were marked on the caps, L for light, no marking for normal weight and H for heavy... Is the counterweight different between the 4x4 and 2wd Rod?

I am not quite sure as i have seen both type rods in both 2 and 4 wd engines,I think its what was to hand when they were assembled

I got that feeling as the numbers on the rods are the same, and I have a set of 2wd rods and a set of 4x4 rods, but a few have the L/H stamps on them.

3 types of rod arent there?

H
S
L

No correlation ive ever seen between wether its a 2wd or a 4wd though, like Pete mentions, seems to be entirely random.

The Cos manual says that the heavy/ light rods are marked as such, standard are not marked, but over the years I have seen loads marked with S, and loads with pin punched dots indicating 1-2-3-4, so I think the best thing to do is just get them balanced when you build the engine.

Matt Lewis will do a set of brand new pistons for about £350 I think. Might not be worth using secondhand pistons it is a bit of a false economy.
