Hey all,
I start work on a self employed basis next week,as a sole trader, i'm an installation engineer, installing workshop equipment and racking on behalf of a Swiss company called Lista.
As its the first time S/E, i'm a bit baffled by all the stuff i've got to do, i've got the business bank account sorted, i know i got to register S/E with inland revenue once i start, then do the whole VAT Registered thing, got my public liability insurance, van insurance, i hope thats pretty much it.
Is there anything from the above that i may have forgotten, do i need any form of health and saftey certificate,
If theres anything i need that i've forgotten then please pipe up and say,
As Usual, any help is appreciated.

Your contract with Lista should state anything else you need, insurance-wise (professional indemnity perhaps?).. You don't need to be VAT registered unless your turnover exceeds about £60k (or somewhere near that)..

get an accountant, will make your life a whole lot easier on the paperwork side of things and they know all the tricks to swindle the tax man.
my sister pay £400 per year for her accountant, which i think is pretty darn cheap.

Keep receipts for everything that may be even remotely business-reated, like stamps, envelopes, fuel, etc.
Your accountant will know what to do with them...

Drop me a PT with a contact number and I'll have a chat with you if you like. This is the sort of thing on I do on a daily basis as an accountant running his own business.
