Default exaust manifold waste gate relocation

hello take a look at this pic

its off a nissan 200sx but im cuting the flange off and replacing it with a zetec one

but where the waste gate sits will poke through my rad

what i wanted to do was move it on to the top in the middle of the 4 pipes but im not sure if this will be ok as all the ones i have seen are kind of mounted in the direction of the flow if that makes sence

what are your thorts

can you get 2 flanges off the wastegate and make a 90degree bend between them so it points down ? of is it still gonna be too close ?

It won't work very well where you plan to put it.

Move the rad or run an internal gate i'm afraid.

Think of it like water flowing through the manifold - how easy a path would it be for the water to reach the external wastegate

The answer to your problem in my mind would be to blank the take off where it is currently and have a take off from the collector area before it enters the turbo on the hot side - go through the external gate and back into the downpipe.

Or put your radiator somewhere else

it looks like your missing a part mate, my xs power manifold and wastegate had another pipe to space the w/g away a bit, and also alter the angle etc.

and are you planning on welding it to the zetec flange as per you pic so the turbo mounts at the bottom? other wise you may have a small issue closing the bonnet lol.

i dont seem to have any pics of the pipe, but i still dont think you will have enough room for it anyway being fwd. your possibly gonna need a custom effort

Wouldn't control your boost particularly well at the top end - be very prone to boost creep.

Let me see if i can quickly bodge something up in MS paint

another way is to block the outlet on the manifold, and have an adaptor made that bolts to the big turbo flange on the manifold, has a take off for the w/g, and then the turbo bolts to this.

could also then move the turbo away from the engine a bit too

you will also need a propper turbo hangar/brace.

otherwise it will snap in half from the weight of the turbo

You can run GT30s both internal and external gate - all depends what sort of boost you want to be running, what hot side the turbo is available with, how big the wastegate penny is, whether boost creep will be a problem etc. etc.
