Default QH duff thermostat

I went to replace my stat on me 2wd sapph cos, even though it was only 2 weeks old and had been perfect, it had gone duff, it was a QH one.
It was not even rising above the cold mark, and sooting plugs being rich etc.
Anyway got housing off, put on bench, then spotted it, the central pin in the stat which the bits slide up and down on had come out, and was now jammed against the "bridge" piece where it was to start with crimped around the middle section, so pushed pin back in, then reinserted it where it should go, got it in the vice corner and crimped it properly, works perfect again now, never seen that in 25 years before though, it has FRANCE and COLSTAT written on it.
Might be somethging to watch out for, hate to think of one jamming closed, it also seems to have killed my IK31 plugs with it being too rich, grabbed another set out the box, but they were IK24, found some IK27 which should do, beleive this is what NMS use, 31's seem a bit cold and foul too easy, anyone else have this problem.
thanks

Thought your car was mapped right, it should not foul plugs, IK 27 are good to over 600hp in heat range.

Mark,
My car is mapped right, but if YOU can make a car run perfect with a fully jammed open thermostat please tell everyone how, as temperature unless I'm mistaken is a major determining factor for fuelling is it not ?
And yes my car does run perfect but thanks for the enquiry anyway.
The reason why I did not take the stat back was all the shops were shut over xmas etc, I reasoned that all the makers do is to crimp the bridge, so that's all I did but tighter, suppose they must miss the odd one out of the many millions they make.

I have had a few people that have forgot to fit there stat after the dyno and have not fouled plugs, Maybe your warm up enrichment is a little too rich.

having the stat stuck open shouldnt make plugs foul only if fueling is too rich,

would just make engine warm up slower......shouldnt effect fueling unless its not been set right, was cold start mapped???

Without the stat you stuggle to get 60c even more so with a turbo cooler,
Once started the afr should be only slightly richer than normal running as you know, So I agree a revisit of the warm up mapping should be looked at.
