iused to have a paper round when i was younger and there were some right vicious bastard dogs in some gardens, i never went in cos i new if i did i probably wouldnt be coming back out again! - what i used to do was roll the paper up and stick it in the gate, ok anyone could have nicked it but i didnt care.
i think postmen should have the same thing, if there's a dog in the garden then the mail should be returned to the post office and a note left on the gate informing the owner to either lock the dog up when the post man is around or face having to keep on collecting their mail from the post office.

I'm not a postie but I do work on site repairs, just the other week I did a job on a farm that had a few guard dogs, the owner said they were friendly so I just got on with the job in hand, whilst working under a car one came over and sniffed me then bit my bloody hand ! Not a lot I could do as I was stuck under a Freelander with a LPG tank resting on my chest lol
I didn't bother to report it but I'll make sure there locked up next time I go over there !

Same for all dogs. Upbringing plays such a big role unsurprisingly. Problem with Rotties is that they are a heavy dog. Don't even have to be trying to do you some accidental damage.
But "generally" the bigger the dog the less skittish they are. I had a Jack Russel go for my bike the other day. Old Lady owner (why is it always an old dear ) was apologetic, but would of been better if she could control the rat on a string in the first place.
Only breed Im not keen on is Dobies. Far too flighty for my liking.

it is down to the owners and IMO the owner of these two dogs may have done nothing wrong at all apart from allowing these to dogs on that day free run of an entry to the house as with all of the rotties Ive had and have I would never unless I am out of the property allow them free run of the property
My old Rotty ripped the back leg off of a crack head once who gained entry to the rear of my house, I returned home to find a wona be thief bleeding to death in the corner of my garden as the dog would not allow them to move
I dragged him through my house through him on the front drive and phoned for police and ambulance, my dog was never prosecuted as the person jumped over an 8 foot wall to get into my garden
moral of the story is that my dog at the time was a very good rotty but still capable of hurting others for reasons the dog believed to be justified
its up to the owners to allow a dog the ability to attack when it is necessary, the owner above didnt stop the two dogs from believing they were having an intruder so it is the owners fault not the dogs.
few beers Xmas eve rant, Amen.

ones got hold of ya arm and the others just biting you for example, are you really just gonna lay there ?
it may be the best way to stop them but under the sircumstances i think anyone is gonna find it hard to just lay there !
i know id be trying to get up and swing a size 13 at it ! prob come off worst but at the time i wouldnt be thinking about laying there !

thats the point though, i remember my dog ALWAYS fought other dogs, i used to break it up and get scratched ect
my dog trainer told me to let them be and watch what happens,,,one dog lies down and mine would stop fighting,,,,, they they would play together !

i got bitten by a dog about 4yrs ago when i done a delivery to a bloke on a farm. the dog got out and ran out and just bite my calf. fucking hurt. took a nice bite too. was fun trying to drive back but didnt report it or do anything. the bloke got robbed a few times and well just a dog doing its job protecting the place. didnt cry like a bitch like a few would. obviously if it was more than that then you would take it further.

i nearly had a big labrador bump into me the other day, but the owner was quick enough to grab a hold of it which gave me time to pull the door closed (it's one of them flats with buzzers to let you in places)
but fuck that shit being chewed up by a dog, thank fuck that fella ran one of them over
i'm not a dog hater, but at the same time, i'm not a dog lover either, they need to be kept under manners when someone knocks on the door and not go bonkers, which might not be the point, but that's what i think

Fuck lying down - that sounds like the most mince comment I have ever heard. Putting your head down at an attackable height and "hoping" that it stops biting u? lol.
My sister has/had a couple of alsations and her boyf's parents have two much bigger alsations. I don't know how you would win a fight with one, but I sure as hell wouldn't hold back. I think where it goes wrong is that u run and they then get a free bite, or you are not sure if they are really going to go for you so you don't "properly" defend yourself. I am not 100% but if you gave one a really proper kick, it must think twice about attacking you?

That's the last thing in the world I'd do.
I was told off a dog trainer that if you have a dog attached to you go for the eyes or try and hit it's nose.
I'm also a postie and to date have only been bitten once. It was a terrier of some sort, about half the size of a Lab, and it got me right on the back of the knee. Little twat.

most people run at first and scream like girls, most dogs aint vicious either remember
run and it will chase you,,, FACT !!!
dogs play alot, fight back and it will keep PLAYING,,, go harder and the dog will fight harder
as said ive had a few dogs over time, my last one was a fucker at times and i would play real rough with him throwing him about and he would keep playing, he killed 2 neighbours dogs too, caught a squirel in hes mouth that he spent MONTHS working to catch too !!! and a fox he also killed
my vet loved him though as he was soo well behaved with people and gentle,,,,, just animals he fought with all the time
got sent to doggy school to sort him out,,, bloke let him and a doberman off in a field,, ahd a small fight then was good as gold,,, both dogs where bad dogs too which is funny
hes was a big fucker, weighed 53 kilos
everyone was scared of him for some reason, run from him and he would chase you and push you to the ground and nibble at you,,,, used to do it to my shoe laces too the little fucker

ps: that was the night i had to wash blood of him from a fox, down side to having a white dog is that the slightest bit of blood and he looks like hes killed the workforce of royal mail,, dont help that it was all over hes chest, mouth and hes front paws,,,,, hence we had to wash him in a carwash bay with a hose
