i have a 1.4 escort and oil keeps comin out through the air fillter and it comes out the cold air feed pipe. does anyone know why this is? and wot needs doin? thanks.

One of my old CVH Escort engines did this, had mega back pressure and was basically firing oil out of everywhere possible....... it was basically fooked

Sounds like a tired old engine mate, first thing to check as mentioned above though is the breathers, especially the one going into the block near the gearbox bellhousing on the back of the engine.

You need to take the rubber breather pipe right off and see if the breather tube coming out of the block is choked, usually they get a huge build up of carbon and sludge here and the engine wont breathe properly like it needs to.

Use a small sharp pick or similar and lightly scratch away at it, some of the debris will probably fall back into the sump so what i used was the small attachment for a hoover and sucked it out as i was picking away at it, thus stopping the shit from falling into the sump !
