Anyone else finding it hard to get into the festive spirit this year???
I sure as hell am.....dont know what it is but I'm really not fussed this year at all!!!
Aint got any presents yet, aint really got the motivation to get any, its more of a chore than a pleasure going out & buying them, aint got any ideas what to get people, aint put my tree or decorations up - infact I'd be quite happy if christmas didnt happen this year!! LOL!!
Perhaps its cos I'm getting older....fook knows!!!
Bah humbug!!!

Matt.....feel for you fella - cant be easy!
Carlo - perhaps thats it mate, I'm definately not as well off as I have been for the past couple of Christmas', money worries definately doesnt help the good feeling. Suppose I'm better just being thankful that I do still have work coming in (touch wood) which is more than what can be said for others!!

More and more families are adopting the approach where they come to an agreement to only buy for their own kids etc, which means that extended families don't get in touch with each other over Xmas atall. Also, there isn't as much need to buy presents, so the Xmas spirit is gradually being lost.
In some ways, whats the point in buying for someone that is buying for you, you might just aswell buy yourself something of your own choice and be done with it. OK, so that's a real stick-in-the-mud opinion, but thats the way things seem to be heading and the reason that Xmas as a whole doesn't feel like Xmas if you ask me.

i think Xmas has lost its approach, years ago the shops were shut for a week, me mom used to do the shopping with 3 trolleys, 28 loafs of bread in the freezer and the milkman used to drop 3 crates of milk and pop off, because he would be off for a week, fookin boxing day now is back to normal!! waste of time now for 1 day IMO!!

I haven't done Xmas for the last 7 years... It doesn't mean anything to me at all and even less this year as it's only me and my mum left now. Dad, Brother and Sister have all gone due to various reasons.
I am pretending not to be a complete miserable fucker for my girlfriends sake! I can tell she likes pressies and stuff. So I'm just about to make a payment on the credit card so I can entertain her in some way.
I haven't got a clue what to buy her! I was going to get her a Wii and Wii Fit but she'll only think the worse.

Fucking hate the overrated commercialised shit. All the sponging bastards coming round to see what they can eat, break, interfere with. Would happily not bother at all, no tree, decorations, cards etc. The lot can fuck off as far as Im concerned. Xmas is no more, in my eyes.
Bitter? Who me?

Feel exactly the same way, if it wasn't for having the kids I wouldn't be bothering with it at all.
Christmas causes more arguments than any other time of the year and to be honest I can't wait for Jan 1st 2009 I'd quite happily skip Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year

na cant be arsed with xmas this year at all, i supposi its cos i dont know how safe the company i work for is what with the car industry being as crap as it is at the mo with the economy...
the misses has been pestering me for a couple of weeks about what i want for xmas, said there is nothing i want or need so dont know and dont really care about it...
Same went for xmas cards at work, said i want sendi any as we dont send any if a person is having any other day of the year off....
have hated xmas for quite a few years now, its over rated.. suppose it would be ok if i had kids etc as it would be bit special for them but as i dont cant see the point in it apart from the nice goose we always have for diner and the xmas puds... part from that....

I know what you guys are saying, it has been totally over commercialised and completely lost its appeal.
Even simple things like people seem to be sending less and less Christmas cards
Everyone is working their bollocks off right up to Christmas Eve all just to go back to work a couple of days later.
As Matt says back in the 70's everything shut down for days on end and people were holed up at home watching TV or out visiting rellys
Now, its all over on one day then its off to SCS to buy a new sofa on Boxing Day.
Sad reflection of the times we live in.

pretty much bang on for me as well. Other than the weekend that conveniently falls after christmas, the only time i have off is christmas day, boxing day and new years day - even have to work xmas eve and NYE - just not enough time to relax and even attempt to get into the spirit of thngs anymore, no matter how much I want to.
For all those that have lost someone near and dear - you have my sympathies and my thoughts over Christmas - make the best of it you can, im sure your loved ones would want it that way

Thats wank mate! I realise there are also lots of others, ie emergency aservices that have to work on the actual holidays - but its still the same as others have said - its all about work now, work and money - no time for the true spirit of it all like when i was a kid

christmas is a time for family reunion so you can have a good punch up with all those family and friends you hate and then star on the Jeremy Kyle show.
Christmas appears to be a time for domestic violence
I unfortunately do not have this pleasure just be me and the kids for the 6th year running, shame the x wife doesn't come over
