On the 4be, I just press a button on the remote to start the car up and then press another button to turn the heater blower to max, turn the a/c on, both heated windows and the heated seats (override link via my Clifford I installed). Come out of the house a couple of minutes later, disarm the alarm, and drive off. Leather seats are already warm, all windows demisted and any ice/frost removed from windscreen and mirrors.

Same as in summer, do the same but press another button, only turns the a/c on .

In my workhorse Fiat though, I have to start the car, turn the blowers on full to the windscreen, deice the outside, then use deicer otherwise it refreezes .

Then, get in the car, wait about 5 minutes to clear the windscreen, turn the blower down, and then there should be hopefully enough power left in the alternator to put the heated rear window on

But if you have bubble bath smeared all over the windows your going to see fck all anyway just like if its misted? do you have to rub it on until its dissapeared/ dried i take it? how often do you have to do this?

What about what they say............................ its best to start your car and drive off, as opposed to letting it warm up idling?

Hardly makes much difference in this instance does it? If you start up and drive off you can't see fuck all

You can select a/c on. But aircon won't engage the pump when temps drop below 4degrees! This to prevent the condensor from freezing

Fords patent ran out a while ago. Both our 02 and 05 Passats were fitted with one. The BM i just use full auto on the climate control and it never ever mists up.

nothing to do with the condensor freezing, that can't happen. some manufacturers use a low ambient cut out to prevent short cycling of the compressor at low temperature as that will prematurely wear the clutch out

subaru a/c is brilliant as with most japanese vehicles - if yours is poor then there is something wrong with it (needs recharging probably)

it wouldn't do - full auto always has a/c on

Did Ford own Land Rover for a while cos my Rangey has a heated front screen?

To de-mist it I just stick it on the "Window Prog" and it clears in 30secs.

In the Subaru, just fire on the air-con full blast on hot and it clears pretty quickly. And the air-con is spot on after a clean of the system and a re-charge.

The 106 XLD daily shit-box has a secret weapon - a de-mister pad. It's totally bollocks if you leave it to do it itself.

I demist my windows very slowly..... with a car that has no heater its a slow process...... if I could be bothered to have the water system blown through with a jet wash every week I may get a few days of heat out of it...lol

i can't believe nobody puts a blanket or newspapers on the windscreen.
another trick from my days of driving old mk2 escorts is to leave the windows down slightly, the fresh air keeps the screen clear

if you turn to the right 1, 2 and 3 are fresh air
if you leave it in the middle it turns the recycle on
if you turn it left it's also recycled air

the red snowflake means it's 0 degrees or below outside
the orange ones means it's between 1 and 4 degrees outside, most of the temp probs are in the front bumpers to get ambient temps rather than air speed temps

come down stairs... boil the kettle, walk outside pour red hot water all over the screen, it gets rid of the frost and ice on the outside and also the steam on the inside, then drive off!!

couldn't ask for a better system

wouldnt reccomend trying it with a crack or big chip in the screen though! could end in disaster...

Get in car, turn on heated seats, press front window de-mist button, reverse up driveway regardless of rear, side or front screen visibility. Drive off looking through the tiny gap in the ice with the wipers on full pack. Car heats up in 1 min or so, by then the screen is warming up and the ice is going. Misting never a problem

Are you serious?........
I hope i dont live near you if you are!!! See people all the time who cant be arsed to get up 5 mins earlier to clear their windows, driving looking through a letterbox sized gap! What are they hoping it'll be cleared by the time the cops turn up if they have an accident?

Anyway how i do mine:
If i'm out i put heaters on full and a/c to dehumidify and wait. Luckily i'm one of the smug types who can take it out of the garage and be on their way at home - no clearing necessary! Well the mrs can then i put mine in the garage to thaw. If i come out of work to a frozen car its de-icer for me. Sod sitting outside work for 15mins waiting for it to clear.

Anyone know if its true that de icer rots your seals as used to be said? Never heard a proper for or against tbh.

We do it with the rally car, as it can mist up when you go through a water splash.

Yes totally serious. Can usually just see about enough to progress at about 10mph or so, for the few seconds till it clears. The real bummer is when the wipers are frozen to the screen, that makes driving even more tricky.

I`ve replaced any amount of windscreens because of people doing this, doesnt have to be a chip or crack on the screen first to bust it with boiling water. It`s only a matter of time before you find this out for yourself

And how likely is it you'll encounter another car or pedestrian in the a few seconds on a rally stage? Not many kids on their way to school or other drivers.

As i said i hope i dont live near you! Just get up 5 mins earlier and make sure you can see safely, sure the feds will take a pretty dim view (excuse the pun) of it if you happen to have an accident.

No, behind the bumper is ambient air, i.e. not being affected by windchill.

If it were placed in the grille for example, you would have cold air being forced over it @ speed. It is something like 1 degree colder for every 10mph faster or something similar.

Well to piss on your smatarse bonfire.
You have the road sections between every stage so there is every chance you could encounter other cars & pedestrians.
Oh theres just the small matter of trees, cliffs, hills, ditch's, rocks, hay bails, logs, marshals, spectators, walls, brokendown cars, animals, and in one case a farmer driving the wrong way up a stage in his Massey Ferguson.
