Default Who here understands Google very well indeed? I need an opinion.

I am in talks with my SEO about the optimization of my www.evolutionchips.com websites and we have been looking at specifically optimising one of my pages for:

Turbo Diesel Tuning

Turbo Diesel Remap

Now when I type those into Google, i don't get much relating to me.
Please try for yourself on www.google.co.uk

Yet he says we are well optimized and provides this link as proof:
http://www.google.com/search?as_q=turbo+diesel+tuning&num=50&hl=en&ie=UT F-8&oe=UTF-8&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&lr=&as_ ft=i&as_filetype=&as_qdr=all&as_occt=any&as_dt=i&a s_sitesearch=&safe=images

Clicking it sees us well listed on page one and the search term looks correct, so I am interested to know what all the code in the link is doing as i think its narrowing the search down a LOT which is NOT what Joe Bloggs will be doing.

Any advice appreciated as I am a very proficient with Google Adwords but cant put my finger on what they have done here to artificially improve listings, which is what I'm sure they have done.

The point is you would be looking for a company, the best. Not a specific company as you would just go there site, or already know of MSD. He wants new comers to find his company on related searches.

I'm not sure, but I do get you on both searches. Actually, no matter what I type. Diesel remap, diesel tuning, etc you are on the first page somewhere in the middle. I am probably wrong, but could I be searching Google UK and you lot are searching Google worldwide?

Benni.

Basically, if you look at a Google Advanced Search, the extra URL parameters in the given link are to do with the extra fields/queries available in the advanced search.

99% of 'regular' people wouldn't use the advanced search like that., imo/e.

Looks like your SEO guy is just using the advanced search:
http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

This is what the URL actually means though:

as_qSearch all words
as_epqSearch exact phrase
as_oqAt least one of the words
as_eqWithout these words
numNumber of results
as_ftFiletype (i = include, e=exclude)
as_filetypepdf, ps, doc, xls, ppt, rtf
as_qdrLast updated (m3 = 3 months, m6 = 6months, y = 1 year)
as_occtOccurs (title, body, url, links, any)
as_dtDomain (i = include, e=exclude)
as_sitesearchsitename.comas_rightsCopyrights (cc_publicdomain|cc_attribute|cc_sharealike|cc_non commercial|cc_nonderived)
as_rqsimilar to pagelrLanguage (lang_en is English)
as_lqfind pages that link to this page
safe=active for Safe Search

Essentially to me though the link that he has provided those variables look blank excluding the number of results to be returned. So I suspect he has done this to convince you your on the first page.

If you go to google.com and search as default you'll probably get around 10 results thus pushing you further down the page.

As far as your results if I am to type turbo diesel tuning into Google you do not appear on the first page. If I edit the number of results on each page you will appear.

It pops up on the right hand side of my page... although I never look over there, as I tend to find that the 'paid for' sites never answer my Google query.

You appear in the sponsored links for me, however if I'm honest I don't generally bother clicking on them unless it's the company I was initially searching for.

Its just occured to me that its optimised well for www.google.com, which isnt much use as most browsers for UK users redirect to .co.uk now.

Sorry everyone, i should have made it clear this discussion is about the organic results, NOT the sponsored ones which will always work as they are paid for and optimised by me personally.

Ah, ok.. It comes up as roughly the 250th site (half way down the 3rd page)! if I just type 'Tuning diesel chip'

...and towards the bottom of the second page with 'Turbo Diesel Tuning' as the search.

the file name of the page
content
how often it changes
meta tags
Title of the page

You appear in the yellow part at the top for me in .com mode and in the sponsered links to the right in.co.uk mode.

I can't see you in the organic search bit at all though...

*Edit*

Your ebay link appears near the top of the 2nd page some of your franchises appear on the 2nd page too.

I think 90% of people totally missed the point of this topic. I must have made an ass of explaining it.
