Default grand theft auto

right folks my eldest who i will state from the start is one of nicest grown up mature lads you could want to know is 12 and has come back from a few mates houses that have the above game asking if he can get it,i personally have never played it but am aware of it,i know its cert18,is the 18 cert justified or a bit over the top as the only way i can find is to let him get it,which if it is justified is too late

i would appreciate oppinions from parents and gamers alike but at the end of the day he is still 12 and still my little boy in my eyes,i dont want him growing up too quick

cheeRS folks

It has swearing, hints of prostitution, drug dealing, war lords, murder, robbery, theft and adultery. So all in all the good things in life

In my opinion if the kid is brought up right then he will be able to establish between whats right and wrong in real life and that its merely a game on the computer, and thats it.

oh he`s well aware of swearing etc just chooses not to use it (at home anyway)

the fact hes played it elsewhere does mean he knows what its about, but also the fact he asked if he can get it and didnt just buy it anyway says to me he`ll be ok

just you read about all the games that are mega violent and it makes em go nuts got me concerned but if you say it aint that bad then looks like he gonna be a happy lad 2moro

Grand theft auto 4 the latest one? Lots of swearing, missions where you have to steal cars, beat/stab/shoot people, make collections of drugs or money and go on dates with women and try to get invited back into hers, you don't see it but the task and sound is there. Visually the game isn't as violent/gory as others in terms of what you do its just the content and what you're doing, mentally, IE its asking you do kill someone for money or steal cars etc. I think it should be 18 though.

I OWNED predator on video as a kid of 11 never did me any harm and arms get ripped off in that and people skinned. Depends on him as you know him best and as some have said he will know all the swear words from school. Why not but it, play it and judge yourself, can always take it back or sell it.

yeah they do, i guess it doesnt matter what version anyway, they all go around the same story line/missions, but obviously the newer the game the more realistic/gory it will be, the ps2 versions are not too bad for that

Depends if he's the sort of lad copies things.

I saw RoboCop when I was 11.
I didn't go out and kill cops.
The kids that killed Jamie whats his name saw Childsplay 2 and killed a toddler.

His your kid and you know him better so its your call.

If he's brought up well like you say, and as long as you are sure he realises the difference between the game and real life then he'll be fine.

The fact he's asked you himself goes to shows how mature he is (for a 12yo)

if he know's the difference between right and wrong he will be fine.

why dont you play the game together and do a mission each?

How about this...

I have Grand Theft Auto (san Andreas) for the PS2.

Send me a fiver to cover postage and a bacon batch and I will post it out to you.

Used it once and i mean once (same as the ps2 that is sitting in a box for the last two years lol), still in box, unmarked disc and instruction manual. Just check that is the one he wants as there are a few I think.

PM me your address and I will post it out tomorrow and trust you to send me my lunch money.

Get a PS3 and the new game...then he can pull up to a hooker, get her riding him in the car, then beat the crap out of her afterwards to get his cash back!

A valuable lesson i think

I dont have kids but if I did I would not let any of my 12 yr old kids/nephews, etc play this kind of game.

If they know swearwords then fine as long they dont swear in front of me.

by letting him play the game you are almost accepting the wrong doings of the game and allowing the kid to do these things - game or not.

SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IMO

Just back from the post office mate, sent it out recorded delivery for you.

And there was enough left for a couple of hot dogs, which are going down a treat.

You can do that on san andreas!!! Even better get a samurai sword and cut her head off and watch the blood spurt in the air!!

Once youve passed the flying school missions you can get the harrier jump jet and apache helicoptor and go on "vigilante" killing sprees.

Or do what i do sometimes and sit on a roof picking off people with a sniper rifle while the wanted stars go up!! You can even shoot down the police helicoptors with a few well placed shots.

Another fun thing to do is get your wanted level up to 6 stars until an army tank attacks you then go into paya and spray to loose the stars, chase the tank and car jack it then go round blowing shit up with the tank cannon

I seriously need to get a job

I had this issue with my 11 year old Son. Kai used to play on the game at my mum and dads on my brothers PS2, he only used to do certain missions but he still used to play on it. He asked my mum for the game for his PSP and she bought it for him without asking me. Obviously when the game turned up in his bedroom and I caught him playing on it I wasn't happy!! In my opinion the game isn't appropriate for a child of that age to play due to the content of some of the missions. One of them on the game for the PSP includes the 'Gangster' getting a blowjob under the desk and it is quite explicit. Maybe I'm a prude but I don't think it's appropriate for an 11/12 year old to be exposed to material like that at that age. He'll have plenty of time to play on games like that when he's older and when he's better able to understand the content.

He probably got ID'd when he tried to buy it himself.... which meant he had to ask.

Haha, nah he sounds like a decent lad, I dont think its too explicit.. but you'll be able to make your own judgement when San Andreas drops through the letterbox.

Im just saying that kids did stupid shit before computer games, and always will.

Didnt mean to sound how it did, sorry.

There is an age limit on it. If thats not allowed then ban all 18 films aswell.

Yea, but this thread is about one kid in particular.... not whether or not kids in general should get to fire out and buy 18 certificate games/films.

while i accept your opinion and we are all entitled to it,you have said you dont have kids,i do and have watched him grow the past 12 yrs,i have not said i will let him play it without me seeing it first which is why i started this thread as i`m unsure and to be honest i still am.

only when my wife and i are sure he is ok with it will he be allowed to play it,as not only he will play but his mates, some of whom are definateley not ready for it,they will not see it nor will their parents find out that their kids have been on it as they wont have full stop!

end of the day if we think it is too old for him it`ll go in box for another day and i will still be appreciative of matt for being as generous as he has been cheeRS mate.

No problem Daz, should be with you Monday I expect.

Your lad sounds pretty responsible to me, and not likely to be affected by a game, and the fact you even take into consideration the feelings of the parents of his mates that may play it at yours would suggest to me you a a VERY responsilbe parent compared to some of the people I come across.

I think you should lock it away when his friends are there.
Just so you dont upset any of the other parents.

Thanks to the lazy press coverage this brand gets just the name can upset some folk.

As we all now when we were kids there is always one div in the group who acts the goat and shows off.

You got to wrap it up, before you slap it up!
