Very sad state of affairs. While i was in the USA the other week i did hear a fair bit of speculation that GM would possibly not be able to see out the year...

I used to get lumbered with all the vx220's as well....they were a nightmare to work on, although I did enjoy them. Also had a good number (well, a good number considering they only made 65) VXR220's come to me....which were good fun.

we are not allowed to work on vx220's etc!
we actually have a vxr8 in for a netQ although as i was off last week i have not had a chance to go in it!although i think the look the bollocks and are a lot of car for the money!i now fully expect to be redundant within a year!

Yeah agreed the VXR8 does look the part, better than the old Monaro imo. Not sure on alot of car for the money though tbh.....have you seen what you can import for less? Importers near me showed me round the new Challenger a couple months ago....check out their site under the vehicles section....

Personaly I couldnt care less if its only left hand drive, its looks make up for that and it dwarfs a VXR8

the problem is that everyone has been buying new cars on finance cars that they can not afford!so the motor trade is getting hit as hard as the housing trade!Although i hate my job and i hate the trade(the most under payed out of all the trades and yet you probably have to know the most!)it is the only place i have worked at!and to be honest i am dreading the thought of having to work somewhere else!

Thats the hard bit mate.....and if you move to another dealership for a different marque say Peugeot or Ford you'll realise how out of date Vauxhall have become with regards electronics. I left and went to Peugeot for a start....god I felt like an apprentis again

GM are one of the biggest, if not thee biggest franchise / dealers in the market, they wont go bust. I wouldnt worry about your jobs. They just took over chevrolet a few months back, they wouldnt have done that if they were unstable.
I also work for VX.....wouldnt be a bad thing if they got bumped off anyway

I left vauxhall after 3yrs....I moved onto a Vauxhall/Peugeot dealership (Burton Pentagon). I went into the Peugeot side as there was no jobs in Vauxhall at the time, so was ment to wait then get transfered to Vauxhall when they could. The Insigma (is that what its called? i had Insignia on the brain?) is just Vauxhalls little leap at playing catch up. Everyone else was multiplexing well before Vauxhall picked up on it a few years back, so now they are lagging behind. Vauxhall was my first dealership, and I picked it up very quickly tbh as they have so many mechanical faults it suited me to the ground. Peugeot on the other hand now have very little in the way of mechanical trouble....yeah the odd clutch or turbo but thats almost a service item for a ex vaux techy. With the french it all seems to be comms faults. I hate electrics.
The girl on reception always seemed to be the same one when I went (I left end of July/early August this year) and she always seemed to give me the faulty swipe card Never knew a lectuer with a MR2?

lol yeah I got all the sticking swirl flap bollocks as I was the quickest at turning them around. Also got many of the egr valves you mention...fucking cut your arm to ribbons I did most of the z13 headgasket fuck ups that came our way as well..did nearly 30 of them, god that was depressing, two a day. The best rework I could turn around though was the old z10/12/14 timing chain jobby...best time being 19minutes start to finish but I had to be on a roll for that time and all the kit I needed was straight to hand.

just finding my feet
GM is alot more than JUST vauxhall though people,,,, its saab, hummer, corvette ect aswell remember
cant see em folding at all, ford are in big shite but have been sorting there shite out over the last 3 years due to it,,,, still in trouble though
car game is just slowing down IMO rather than failing,,,,, back in the day how many people had new cars ?
now kids are buying em and people on 25k a year are paying 400 quid a month finance
also main dealers have been screwing people over for years,,, the aftermarket is now VERY fast with technology and keeping up if not doing a better job in some cases too

Soldering the eye lets, I used to clean them up using a gasket cleaning disc (the 3m things) then heat the back of the terminal with a gas tourch then apply solder...could be done very quickly. I had to rework a few that another dealership had done where the solder just sat in dry blobs on the surface
The later ABS recall with the stupid plastic cover is a problem that many manufactuers are having, it's just you only seem to hear of Corsa's having problems. With Peugeot it was a add on sub loom that changed it from a permemant 12v feed to a ign switch. But they had an odd thing with the control unit, they only replaced it if there's 'red rust' on the bolts that secure it to the modulator.
