We were out an about last nite and my mate who has only recently just got his CSL M3 was also out....Ripping about our town all night was this Evo MR FQ340...Now I know the guy who drives it to and be honest he is a bit of a dick, but anyway. They decided to have a race last nite off the lights and up a carriageway....The driver of the M3 told the guy driving the evo to "GO ON GREEN"

I was sitting behind both cars in rs nutters escort rs turbo and was videoing it on my phone...The are both revving a bit (Note the CSL didnt use launch control). The second the lights turned amber, the evo bounces off the limiter,dumps the clutch and goes... Eh didnt we say on green u cheating MOFO! Anyway the CSL goes after him, the csl is already about 6-7 carlenghts behind the evo..so they race up this carriageway and suprisingly enough the EVO actually beat the m3 csl - well to 140 anyway...the driver of the evo got out and was chatting away (bellend) but he said he was doin 140 and my mate alex in his csl said he was nearly hitting 170mph...The race ended with the csl on the bumper of the EVO....Iwas actually quite suprised the evo stayed infront even until 140 - altho 6 carlengths is hard to get back....

So all in all, i would jus like to say that FQ340's are fast as fuck if they can beat a CSL M3.

CSL has around 350bhp, rwd, so should of caught it

FQ340, 340bhp, 4x4, plus alot lighter so probably quicker to 100 at least

Isn't it weird how the Evo is always the benchmark?? In this example, the Evo costs less than half what the M3 CSL does!!

For Ł47,000 you could have an FQ-400 Evo, which would have mullered the CSL.

Also, made me laugh on Top Gear last night, the Evo 8 MR-320 was above that Aston on the table!!

I say the Evo is awesome!!

I do agree though, the CSL is nice. Sounds like a motorbike IMO.

I agree - But he had already used the launch control a few mins before and he didnt want to use it again incase the clutch slipped.....

Doesn't the CSL and M3 both have launch counters ??? i.e it counts how many launches you do and BMW can see how many you've done (when you take it for services) and do too many and its voids your warrenty !

Something daft like that, he hardly ever uses launch control....the one time he used it against the fq (cos they raced more than once) the csl sat with the evo on the launch,but had to brake before he went into second gear as the next set of lights, about 100yards down the road went to red lol...shit one....can anyone host the video?

Well this CSL has been sitting at 175 on the clock so im assuming the limiter has been taken out....its not brand new so maybe the guy who owned it before him took it out, altho it does only hav a few thousand miles on it.

Acceleration wise the FQ340 is probably a tad quicker to 60, but slower to 100. I know the new, more powerful FQ400 is about 1 second (or slightly more) quicker to 100mph than the CSL. The CSL should hit 100 in a shade under 11 seconds.
The launch would be a problem in the CSL - I'm sure the 340 would absolutely rocket off the line. LC on the CSL is not always the great either - if the tyres are cold it can actually be better to launch 'manually'.

If the bushi had a headstart by that much then its hard to catch up with only a small power gain.

The CSL would win from a rolling start at 50mph in 3rd up to 170,better aero,and more wheel hp .The M5 would murder them both

The NEW E60 M5 would yes Very fast machine - about 2.5s faster to 125mph (13secs) than the CSL.

Well the vid is taken from my RS, i just thought i'd give them a head start, you know just to make it fair on them IMO if the CSL wasn't full of fat bastards and had used the launch control it would have hammered the evo. The M3 is stupidly fast he raced me once - i got up to 135 on the clock and he was about 200-300m behind me, within a ,atter of seconds he passed me like i was going backwards! The evo is very very fast off the line, but it doesnt seem to have the legs of the M3.
