Default Grub screw costs 100hp @ wheels!!

Have had my Escort on the rollers in a bid to get a couple of back to back runs as a reference for some planned mods, trouble is I couldn't get any runs to come close to each other The highest figure I have seen is 540hp and the lowest 463hp, after a bit of head scratching I found the below..

This is the inside of a Tial wastegate and the arrowed part is the little bastard that managed to unscrew itself and hold the wastegate slightly open by varying amounts as it worked itself around! (new wastegate used for photo, mine was badly marked). Just wondering how long it's been like it!!!

The underside of the diaphragm with the offending grub screw..

Just before I left work tonight I managed two back to back runs with 3hp difference, the best being 565.7 @ the wheels, using 2.2 bar boost tailing to 2.0 at the top. Need to try it with a bit more boost and ign now

I did notice sometimes it didn't seem to have the same pull but I put it down to me getting used to the power

No chance of it escaping anywhere.

565 at the wheels?

How much boost will it run - 2.6 bar? That should be around 600 atw if you've got some ignition too

I don't like flywheel figures on rolling roads hence the reason why I quoted the deadly accurate @ wheels figure.

Any probs you get on DD seem to when they sometimes add inaccurate bhp for fly figs so I think your doing the right thing MArtin

so the grub screw was getting trapped under the diaphragm carrier to hold the valve open a bit presumably (hence the marks under the diaphragm?) rather than the retainer nut coming loose Martin?

Yes, you can also see that at times it lived in the diaphragm which would have given normal power.

I agree. The wheel figure after all is whats seen on the road and most relevent to performance.

565 bhp ATW is very impressive for a 4x4 car.
