i used to get these as a kid, horrible 
obviously cant remember what i used to take, although it wouldnt work on adults anyway.
Lucky for me i havent had one for years.
Go to the docs if its bugging you that much

you prob have an infection if it's that bad - so will need anti-biotics. You could also get some 'almond oil' from a pharmacist, gently heat the bottle in warm water and go with a few drops of that - it's v soothing 
)

have you got a hair drier?
drop lots of water into your ear and then warm it up a tiny bit wit the hair drier
don't start sticking shit into your ear like knitting needles and stuff as this might make matters worse, your ears will produce more wax the more you dig it out too

Warm up a tea towel on a radiator or something or even microwave it, but not for too long, then put the tea towel over the offending ear and lie down ...

but he's got an ear ache so perhaps hes just got some water traped inside, or he's got a spot inside or something the other side of the eardrum
i've had a spot in my ear and it hurt like fuckrey and took about 2 months to clean up after it had gone away and puss'd out
i'd wait till he saw the docrot as the resident pf docrots are telling him 50 different things that might not cure his pain
warm oil, dip some cotton wool into it, stick it in your ear, put some tape around to hold it in place

sleep on a hot water bottle, that always helped me but careful you dont burn yourself lol and warm oil in the ear too thats soothes it. stay out of draughts and maybe put some cotton wool in it to keep it warm

It can REALLY damage your hearing. Don't you have emergency appointments in there? Over here you just check which hospital runs emergency visits today and go there.

Just got back from Doctors, Got an infection and a lump on my drum, tube is blocked up from throat, Doctor says nothing can be done, just take tablets to help clear it, Have to go back in a week to see how it progresses 
Got plenty of drugs though to try sort it
