Westy,

No point in paying £300 for a PS3, this is what you want for the old fella. Put the disc in and away it goes. http://www.play.com/Electronics/Elec...archtype=genre

Rubbish,

That machine was £400+ when it came out, like all the blu ray players initially where and there is numerous other models for £20-£50 more that will do the job as good as a PS3 if not better. I suppose you have one of those gold connector £99 1.5m HDMI cables!

The thing that annoys me with the PS3 is the noise of the fan.. Mine is situated next to my tv on a shelf and it really drones. Im going to go for a standalone Blue ray player.

Does the PS3 upscale normal dvd's to any of the 1080 options?

All i know is that it does upscale. I run it through a 1080p 100hz LCD and the quality is pretty good. Definate improvement over the bog standard DVD

Kelv - yeah, the PS3 does up scale. I still dont reckon that my DVD's look as good as HD quality though on the PS3..

Anyway, got this for the old man. Its his B'day tomorrow, so I hope he likes it. I could have bought the nice Alpine head unit I wanted instead

do any other ps3 users have this same problem.
I know that when my tv etc is off and the ps3 is still on you can hear the fan noise. TBH, when watching a movie/game or regular tv I cannot hear the fan, maybe because I have the sound through the surround sound constantly. But I do know that the fan can annoy lots of users

Westy,

No cable in the box is sad. Make sure you buy an HDMI cable for around £5 as it will offer no advantage due to being digital. I bought a 3m cable on Ebay for £5 and it works 100%.

cheers Tony..

Managed to get a cable for £60 as its gold coated and will produce a far superior picture..!

3.50 off of Ebay mate, job done and sent same day!

Just surprised they didnt include one really. Can understand on a normal player, but a Blu-ray one is useless without isnt it :S

He is well chuffed but not sure if its an act and he's thinking, what the hell is this
