Default speed camera help

i was driving along the a10 2day, the limit is 40mph and i was doing about 47-48mph. i noticed a copper standing on the pavement in a bus stop. he was pointing one of those handheld guns down the road so i braked and slowed down 40mph.
there was also a police car parked behind the bus stop, but what i want to know is do the speed guns the police use store the affending motorists details on the gun and print tickets later or would they have sent the police car after me to give me the ticket?
any info would be grately appreciated.

Maybe he'd just parked up there?
Won't drive off after dozens of speeding drivers all day.

he may of parked up there, but there was a copper standing on the pavement aiming the gun down the road, just wanted to know if the guns store the details or they would need to send the car after me to give me the ticket

They can't even READ any details, let alone store them, they are a simple doppler effect gun, the plod car would have been there for two reasons, 1 being that they have to test the gun that day with a car with a calibrated speedo against the gun, otherwise evidence is inadmissible, two to chase any people that were naughty enough.
bearing in mind most speedos over read a bit you were more likely doing a real 42/43, so they won't be interested as this is even below suggested limits of 3mph + 10% which is what most forces allow, though there is nothing set as a rule.

Nope, work got a letter, and I got a SAW which was nice.

Tabetha, it's 10% + 2, not 3.
Like you say, so set rules, if applying zero tolerance 1mph and you're done.

As he was in a tacho'd lorry by sounds of it, no overead to rely on unfortunately.

I had a scare wednesday, national speed limit single carriageway, doing 54mph, limit 40 obviously....
As approached little turning on left thought what the fucks that, and was a tiny camera on a tripod next to hedge, and white van down the lane.
Sneaky sneaky fuckers, guess depends if they've got it just set to speed, or vehicle or what....
Not fun these silly speed limits.
Maybe yours was for tax, never know.
Was doing nearly 40 in a 30 with some copper pointing a gun and heard nothing, so just never know.
Fingers crossed, never nice waiting to see.

the essex police use those tri pod camera's. i was on my way to southend the other saturday, i was blasting down the a127. it was dark and i caught a glimpse of a green light on the pavement. i slowed down and noticed the tripod camera, but it was a black camera so it blended into the dark night rather well. sneaky fucks

They're usually the LTI20/20, which is laser not radar. This heinous device can be connected to an approved VCR which logs stills and so on. This is the setup the civillian operators use in the mobile vans normally.

I'd have thought he'd have signalled you in though Mark.

Where was his car parked? Trying to picture it in my mind. Near a Ford and Honda garage is where you are talking about I think? Never, ever seen a speed trap around there.

But if he didn't stop you there and then or other officers there did not stop you and issue you on the spot a speeding ticket, nothing will happen. I never speed anywhere anymore especially on certain stretches on the A10 between caterhatch and M25 junction. Just far too risky never know when the fuckers will pop up!

I doubt he'd have picked up the reg of the car or radioed to other officers (if there were any at the spot) to take down details.
