Default Sierra Cosworth engine rebuild prices

Hi there,

I am doing some work on my car before the summer time, I'm planning on getting my whole car resprayed including the engine bay and thought while the engine is out I should get it rebuilt.

It doesn't use oil or smoke but there is no evidence of the engine ever being rebuilt and the last owner told me it hadn't been rebuilt because it never needed done. I'm doing this as a precaution as I don't want to spend all the money on the looks of my car to have to take the engine out again and have it rebuilt.

My car's a 1993 K plate with 124k miles and a huge documented service history. The car has been converted to RWD but the engine is still the original 4x4 one.

How much should I expect to pay for a engine rebuild by a good company?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It's running stage 3 with some extra goodies at the moment. It's at 330bhp with 369 ft/lb's of torque but has alot more in her. It's nice a reliable the way she is though.

I would be running the same setup as I have justnow

Thanks

Yeah I've worked on engines in the past, mostly A series (mini) engines though.

I think I'd leave this to the professionals though.

nice moter mate, well, suppose depends wat they find with the head once its off. are u replacing guides seals etc?

Bottom end cost me Ł1800 with Ł300 on the head with guides seals etc.

That was with woosner low comp pistons at .5. But alot of people of here dnt like woosner.

This was running 332bhp 269lb/s 27psi on a t3. on greens

END PRODUCT

I know a few local people on here who could help you, depends what you want, i.e a reputable "tuner" to do a drive in drive out rebuild, or just drop the engine off to them. Or if your not that bothered, there are some other places you could use which would be good quality and quite a bit cheaper. I think i was about 2k and that was taking the engine out myself and putting it back in again. Rstoughy did the head for me, and i took the bottom end down to a place in Dundee, not Agra, i think it was a place stucos reccomended if my memory serves me right. I have the reciept if you need the name.

Yeah I think most things will be getting changed.
I can't imagine them finding much wrong when the take the head off, I'm doing this as a preventive thing. It runs spot on but I don't want to spend the whole winter and early next year getting the car ready to have something go wrong so would rather do it now.

Who built your engine?

Thanks

will it stay under 380bhp for the rest of the time??

if it was having more power in the future id consider getting all the hard work done now.

I'm not really sure how I'm going to go about it yet as I will need to get the engine bay painted when it's out the car.
I would like to use a a reputable tuner and just drop the engine off to them.

Thanks

I would be happy running between what I've got justnow and 380bhp.
I will upgrade some parts for strength/power but I don't want to go crazy.

Yeah mine needed a rebuild, it was smoking for a while, i changed the turbo over but it was still doing it on the odd occasion. I took the head off with the intent of doing the block at a later stage, but then i just decided to do the rest while i was at it.
A meet sounds like a good idea, i need to get my car up and running first though! Almost there, i just need to re plumb in the fuel system as i ripped the whole lot out 2 months ago. Do you know Lambchop off here, he stays in Balmedie, i stay in B.o.d
