depends on the type of file to be shrunk, if its a text based file then it will compress well, but things like avi's etc don't compress very well and its unlikely that you will attain the shrunk size you are after. if however you merely need to split the files so that you can store it, then winrar, will allow you to do that by splitting the file into lots of chunks that can be put back together again afterwards, but backed up over several dvd's.

You need to split the file mate. You can't shrink it to 6gb, then shrink it again to 4.7gb!
And avi files don't shrink at all as they are already compressed, the only way to make them smaller is to decrease the quality. So basically, split the file into 4.7gb chunks and burn away

but ive got a 6.3 gb file . went to burn it and the program shrinks it to fit on a 4.7gb disc , but tryed with the 8.39gb file but it cant do it . can i not shrink or lose a bit of quality to make it 6gb roughly and then use the prog to burn it onto 4.7gb disc ?

its only for the dvd player in the car on a 7" screen so the quality aint got to be amazing ?
