Red stuff is less corrosive in water ways in head etc.Normally german cars use this but if putting in a car thats had normal blue stuff im sure you need to buy coolant flush and rinse it out thoroughly before putting red in

never mix the colours! as i understand, they can react and be corrosive/create air locks! just to be safe i would flush and use the one reccomended in the manual!

so me and the old man should be using something different then.

Hmmm how can you check what colour is in there if its been there for ages? would it still retain its colour?

You can't. It'll be brown and murky.
Besides, if its been in there ages you should be dumping it anyway.

Escort mk6 aint gonna be hard to flush, its not like a K series where you can never get the air out again.

I never knew about the colour differences. Mine came filled with fresh pink stuff (to match the paintwork I'd assumed ). I'd better be careful what I top up with then...
