Not a bad idea and quite a few of them turn that way for whatever reasons - some people want to be an online comedian, but don't realise there just too stupid to be funny!

 

does seem a good idea a minority seem to be ruining it for everyone,you go to read a thread it turns to crap you then put that dodgy user on ignore and you cant understand the thread from their on

 

seems a good idea for those who are on alot, I hardly use this forum so wouldnt know who to ban untill shite started lol but when I do come on here there always seems to be bitches fighting

 

Hard to do really, unless the software exists someone will have to code it into the BB..

What's the point of that? All that will do is cause more arguments. A user tries to reply and gets a message along the lines of "Sorry, you are not permitted to post in this thread." How many "why the fuck did you ban me..." threads is GD going to see daily

i dont think folks would get banned from a thread anless the were pulling it way of the topic of the person who posted.

and the ignore function only leaves a gaping wound whare you are left wondering what has been said.

 

I think it is extremely childish myself, same as the whole idea of ban ignore.
If you don't like other things don't come one, I haven't even bothered with the "mate", or "foe" button, I think if you feel that way inclined it is time to leave the site.

As for the original post, cant really see the point in that when there is already an ignore feature anyway, and even better than the ignore feature is the scrollbar which allows you to just ignore things on an adhoc basis.

 

If people online bother you this much, it's time for a rethink on what's important in your life.
It's only the internet, no need to care so much.

If you want others to stop doing something, then lead by example and stop doing it yourself.

Personally I stick to just telling people to use the ignore feature if others bother them, as if anyone ever actually bothered me on here its what I would do, but I just dont take anything on here seriously enough for it ever to bother me enough to need to in the first place so have never done so yet.

I tried using the ignore button but everyone was saying how annoying Chip was but couldnt see why as his posts did not show.. so the ignore button does work, but the threads make no sense at all.. all you see if people saying what a twat he is, without any reason behind it.

The people saying what a twat someone is, are for the mods to deal with, as repetitive and insulting continual comments harrassing a user, wether the user actually cares much or not, are for them to sort out in order to clean up the forum, the rules on such things are clear, and anyone mistaking this site for bebo just needs reminding its not.
As no one with a life wants to read that rubbish all day obviously, and if they do, they can go to bebo or whatever anyway they dont need to be on a car forum to read childish rubbish continually. Small amounts of banter can be entertaining, but page after page of the same repetitive insults are utterly pointless.
So that side of things is easily sorted with better moderation, quick infraction to half a dozen users to point out to them that a thread about engines isnt the time or place to be commenting on who they do or dont like, and problem solved with regards to comments about others, then you just ignore the ones you dont want to read posts from, and everyone is happy as the thread is entirely on topic for everyone and no one has to read any comments from people they would rather not.

ah well, he's banned now anyway, so peace and quiet for a while thankfully, its ok in threads like this which are pointless anyway, but its a shame when he does it all over techinical threads.

 

Ahhhh OK, I wouldn't have known as I don't come on here as much as I used to as it's gone downhill big time.

He totted up infraction points I think, so its not a case of one specific reason.

Would imagine that the fact that in excess of 75% of his posts this week were purely to slag me off probably had something to do with it though, as Id imagine it was getting as boring for the mods as it was for the rest of us, and obviously literally following a user around in every technical thread they post in just to tell them you dont like them is about as clearcut breaking of the rules in terms of harrassment and repititive content as you can get, so im sure its well deserved.
