Default anyone got a solar battery charger

if so are they any good, my cars seem to get used less and less and the alarm seems to be eating the battery on one of em

anyone use one/got one ?

i get sunlight here, just my bat charger seems to have died and i need another, thinking a solar one might be a better option perhaps

you do need decent sunlight though, for a good few hours for it to be worthwhile.

for example a cloudy day with 20mins of direct sun is not going to do a lot for it, whereas 6-8 hours of proper sun will keep a dead battery running forever if you see what I mean.

Depends on how shot the battery is, and how much sun you get. For example over here, if I leave my car for more than 2 days it wont start. I should really just buy a new battery, but the solar charger keeps it topped up nicely so I can't be bothered.

most of them work with light so sunlight isnt that important
my mate has used his like that for years

my battery aint shot, just ive got a alarm and a tracker and i leave it for a fair bit and now my batt is dead, i might also have some sort of drain on it perhaps

just wondering is it worth it or not ?

couple of points

found that my interiorlight,glovebox light and boot light were a large part of my battery draining issues remvoed the bulbs
and helped

the solar charger then worked well

it will only be any good long term if the average output of the solar panel is higher than the current drain. take the - off the battery and put an ammeter inline to measure the drain and compare it to the solar charger output, bearing in mind the strength of daylight in the smog bound inner city ghetto and reducing daylight hours

my dad uses one on his ford escort at his second house.
works well but in spain it would!!

i had one for the bm as the battery kept going flat after being stood a couple of days

it worked well but while michell was driving the wire snagged & as it wasnt fused set fire to the wire & filled the car with smoke
