Default Engine life

My Focus 1.8 16v zetec has 106k on it

Burns no oil
Doesnt use water

Has a full mongoose system on it and a K=n with the recent addition of 18 inch wheels

I have owned it 4 weeks

Runs spot on

I have some cams to go in it. Kent stage 1

Can I just go ahead an fit them an its job done. Will reset the timing aswell.

I will be getting a remap in the coming months aswell to cmpliment this

What gains will i see with just cams?

Will it be noticeable?

Will it kill my engine.

Bearing in mind i have just done all the belts and a full service

Thanks in advance

Were will you be going for your remap, be careful as there are alot of cowboys out their. You would be good to find an EvolutionChip dealer in your area.

According to the TIS Workshop manual for the Cam Caps it is

Stage 1 = 10Nm

Stage 2 = 19Nm

Whilst you're at it I'd consider doing the head gasket if its not been done already with 100+k

+1

My dads had his engine changed in his zetec escort estate, its the 1.6 version but similar engines.
The head went on that at about 100k, and also make sure you check the engine regular because my dads 10month old 60k engine which he had put in overheated yesterday, it was about 5mins away from frying the engine

The verdict? still at the garage.

Its not all bad though, i owned an escort gti for 2 and a half years, never had one single engine problem, apart from the reving high issues most zetecs get, which was easily fixed

without wishing to sound rude, you're better off not bothering with the cams and fit the st170 mainifold as the focus one you have is very restrictive

the cams might reduce low/mid range torque, and give you a little more power much later in the rev range

A 4-2-1 from Piper or Millitek would be just as good imo but the ST170 manifold is renowned for giving the best overall gains all across the rev range. Either of the 3 are excellent manifolds though and all high quality items.
