Default do you guys use gasket sealent on water pumps etc?

putting my water pump and front crank cover on my cossie. shall i just use gasket or do you lot use anything else aswell?

I always dress the gasket with a good RTV sealant.

Yep i put gasket sellant on. funny thing i was on my way to oxford satarday and had to come home cos the pipe to the water pump leaked after a good stint on the motorway. the bloody jublie clip was cinked. but for a second thourght it was the pump and its new..

someone said they use a light grease is that a normal thing

I use no sealant on either.

I always use the theory that if it didnt have sealant when new, and if the surfaces are still in good condition, then I put it on dry. Altho I do tend to use a little bit of sealant on corners...cam covers are a good example, just a little noggin in the corner of where it may go over say a cam carrier cap etc.

nope, and my last oil pump gasket gasket was a rice krispie box!

well it was pissing oil, it was 8pm on a sunday night and i needed the car for work otherwise i wouldve got the right gasket.

















now i just use cereal boxes all the time
