Black mk2 xr2 was quailty handled like a go kart and had enough crankcase pressure it could blow the filler cap off when you revved it

Haha, yes, it was. I went to Uni with Hans who went on to become the staff writer. I suggested it as a comedy way of getting it in the mag. He did, and I ended up getting an interview for Revs off the back of what I wrote... fast forward 11 years and I'm the editor of a Ford mag thanks to a shitbox Skoda!

In this order, Nova 1.3 SR, Nova 1.4 SR, Nova GTE, RS turbo powered escort cab, calibra 8v, cav cdi, senator 24v, cav 4x4 turbo, omega elite, carlton 24v diamond, another cav 4x4 turbo, Lexus IS200, volvo C70, (with S1 as weekend toy, replaced with my escos that i have now).

Theres been plenty of others inbetween (omegas, more cavs, vectras, carltons, xr2's, xr2i's) but the ones above are the ones ive had for a reasonable amount time.

1500quid at 18 with literally no driving experience barring passing my test.

Most folk were paying that on shitboxes, first quotes were 5k+, but if you keep plodding on you can get a good price...

i take it it didnt occur to you something was up if you was going thru engines like that?

and I/C blew apart as standard plastic end tanks to above 15psi, you need to strap em up with a giant jubillee clip to stop that.

id never noticed that, i managed to get quotes for them the same price as RS Turbos, 1.9 GTIs, GTE 16Vs, etc etc, just chose an R5GTT as they the best.

took lots of negotiationg to get the quotes down from 5k+ tho.
