Talking Sod concours, the tracks for me

When i first joined this site i was all up for turning my car into a concours winner. But in the short time i have used PF i have decided to give up on this idea and consentrate on track days. the amount of photos of all your cars going round the tracks looks so much more fun than having it parked in a line of other cars with people noseying around your engine bay and underneth. so really i need a bit of info from you all..
  1. Weres the best place to get insured for track days?
  2. Can i have insurance for both road use and track use?
  3. Do i have to register with anyone before i go out on a track?
Cheers spook

trackday insurance isnt worth a wank, especially on our cheap cars, just make sure yuo can afford to lose the car and not suffer financially.

some insurers offer track cover with their normal policy, again most arent worth a wank tho

you need nothing other than a driving licence,. you just book the trackday via somewhere like motorsport vision and pay online/phone then turn up, hand over your licence so they know you can drive and then you get a quick briefing and off you go on the track! it's really quite daunting at first how easy it is to get out there!

most tracks (not all) want you to wear long sleeves.

all require you to wear a helmet

Only clothing requirements im aware of are that you must wear long trousers and long sleeves.
All UK tracks require you to wear a helmet too of course, most will rent you one if you dont have one, but as you can get a half decent lid like an OMP Star for about 50 quid, its easier to just buy one IMHO, or failing that just borrow a motorbike one off someone.

Thanks for that Chip. I have a bike helmet, but im thinking an open face would be better, aslo would gloves be a good idea. So as far as im aware I would need the following to get on track?
My Car
My licence
My Helmet
Obviously a pass of some sort
Make sure im booked on etc.

Oh and I will be taking a normal road going motor, proberly a 3dr cossy, the Ferrari 355, subaru wrx, have a choice but as a novice I dont wont to go out and be a hero, hence maybe a smaller car would be better to help me learn.

If I were you, I wouldnt bring any car that I couldnt walk away from laughing while its on fire. If you have even the slightest hint of "oh my god, what if i bin it" going through your brain, then you wont have as much fun.

How about a run of the mill toyota corolla vvtli, just to help me get the feel and idea of things, and help build my confidence. Its shit slow but reliable.

I personally dont use gloves, but you can if you wish, especially if you suffer from sweaty palms from too much mastubating like Mike Rainbird does.

open face lid is far more bearable on a hot summers day IMHO
