Mike, you say you have another compressor wheel.

Whats the money they fitted you a GT BB cartridge and then fitted you a GT35 compressor wheel.

You can see what they fitted in the photos I posted up .

It is definitely not a GT35 compressor .

I think the main point is getting everything to work together and developing it t do so.
From what i have seen Euans car that is very similar spec to mine (baring the exhaust) drives like a T34 car but has took a long time to get like that.

No problem, car 'should' be ready by the end of this Month (If not before) and wanted to fit these up first.

It's a shame you can't restrict the poll to only those people who have actually run both turbo to compare.. eg.. about 5

Although I haven't driven a GT30 turbo, I have seen them in action on the dyno and the results are in Paul Ripley's thread .

On a track car, I just wouldn't want the back-pressure that goes with the GT3076 in 0.63 a/r, nor the power limit.

Your first line says it all!! Lee's had a .63 housing and if it was only making 495hp then it went well on track with what it had Also if it has excess back pressure then we saw no detrimental signs whatsoever.

Martin,
I have already agreed that the boost threshold is likely to be better on the 0.63 a/r GT30, I have also explained why I personally wouldn't want it on my own car.

In my mind, those back-pressure figures are excessive on a track car. At the end of the day, it is personal preferrence - Paul Ripley was privvy to both sets of figures (as they were dynoed back to back on his car), yet he still chose the smaller turbo, as he decided that he wouldn't be spending long periods of time at 7500rpm .

At the end of the day, as long as you are armed with all the information, you can make your own choice as to what suits your particular requirements, I have just tried to explain my reasons for chosing what I did .

Given the above, it shows that the GT30 is still only "just about" a 500bhp turbo in either 0.63 a/r or 0.82 a/r format, where a T4 would be up to 20bhp better, at the expense of some spool up (comparing this with the roller-bearing T4) .

I would rather trade 20hp at the top end for low down drivabilty any day of the week.

I would also like to have seen figures for Lee's engine on the dyno with a GT30 as it felt like it had much more using Dingy's ass dyno it felt more powerfull than any T4 I have driven.

You like your T4 so stick with the old timer, if I had your car it would be gone in a flash and be exchanged for a GT35.

My engine must have cost about HALF what Mikes did!

and it was foooking AWESOME! proper proper proper engine! everything that was needed and nothing that wasn't! cheap, bombproof and proven...

GT30's rock!

Karl reckon about 530bhp didn't he? If it was only 495bhp... they were FOOKING big strong old neigh neighs!

I think your arse dyno is out of sync, as my car had no trouble staying with Lee's at Silverstone, despite a weight disparity in the Sierra's favour, on soggy road orientated spring rates and only a smidge more power (going by Paul's figures)... .

My T4 is hardly an old timer and features the latest up to date technology . Perhaps before slating them, you should try one for yourself and see what you think . All you have to do is see what Euan managed to achieve with his, and even you can't fail to be impressed .

what go 1mph faster than Martoon did with a T4?

With 5 years more development using and Euanused a much bigger intercooler and exhaust than Mart...

takes more than that to impress the bald one I suspect

Agreed. Mike's car is brilliant, but a modern turbo would transform it IMHO

All my runs were done in the wet with no traction until high up in 4th gear and a fucked head gasket pressuring the cooling system and spraying water out the header tank.

With a good start(dry and some traction) to the runs and a healty engine it would have defo seen over 190.

AVa have spend alot of time developing turbos on my car and Alan and Vince know a thing or two about turbos so do you hoenstly think that if a GT30 was any better than the T4 thats on my car they wouldnt have fitted one?

Euan, your car doing top speed runs isnt really effected by boost threshold or throttle response, once the turbo is spooled thats it, flat out all the way, so the comments martin was making about the ways in which a GT30 is better, dont really apply to your runs IMHO.

I know this chip but was just clarifying what Mike said about the runs.

I syand by my coment that if Alan and Vince thought I would see an improvement by simplying bolting on another turbo then they would have done so a long time ago.

So the T4 is better everywhere and fitting a GT30 would not see an improvement anywhere?

Your head gasket is probably tired due to the 40k miles of rolling road mapping you have been doing

Yep, even though I doubt you mean it sincerely . I tried to drive sensibly, as I didn't want to frighten you (I'm nervous of nervous passengers, as I don't like clearing up sick ), I hope you enjoyed it .

I was disapointed as well, but we were never on the same part of the track. I didn't even see them at all...

I was interested to see what they went like, as the Whiffbiz car is one of my favourites, and although I doubt I would have even seen that for dust, the white one is allegedly not as powerful .
