Keep getting this message saying windows host service has stopped working properly, probably on a daily basis And now cant listen to any sounds, did a sound test via control panel and it works that way, but media player and any links wont work, its just silent.

any ideas? Oh and its on vista

Thats a common vista thing. Check how many SVC Host processes you've got going in task manager, I bet one of them is using 90+ CPU thingys.

This happened to me.

Click on 'show processes from all users' then do the same again.

what updates is it for? as removed SP2 for vista as the computer stopped and was having loads of errors and freezing constantly?

Thats not what I was going to suggest

I did a complete system restore, which I interrupted half way through causing blue screen of death..... then sent it back to the factory as it was under a year old....

They replaced the hard drive and ram FOC. Then given me a fresh install of Vista (oh joy) and off I went problem free!!

 

The laptop is 3mths old, it was replaced on house insurance because other one was damaged, so not sure what warranty it has got?

Dont really wanna knacker it up i just wanna know why it keeps getting this host process thing?

 

just run the software and see what needs updates

create a file folder on your desktop "ie pc tools" ..save all the updates to the saved folder..create a system restore point..then install all the new updates to the lap top..if no JOY just restore back to your last update

If you want my advice, buy xp for 40-50 quid and never have any more stupid problems ever again

 

its the only problem we have had with it tbh, it seems ok apart from this irritating issue

are u running the windows updater regularly. as the service sometimes doesnt start automatically.

I was having lodas of stupid vista errors but as long as its up to date its been spot on.
