Removing Escort Air bag

I have a mk6 escort and i have want to remove the air bag so that i can tighten everthing up there is play even when lock is in place
.Has anyone removed one and how do i do it safely...

any advice appreciated

Two small screws from behind the wheel, Take them out and the whole unit will come out

disconnect the battery, then theres 2 5.5mm sockets behind the steering wheel (will have to take the cowling off) undo the sockets and pull.
