Quick help please- CV covering letter
Just filling out an application form online for a job and it requires an attached covering letter. Now ive read what basically needs to be in the letter but i just need a few little tips and pointers as not had to do one of these before. Do i put my address etc on it at top like a normal letter?, or would they get that from my attached cv anyway and on the application form. Anyone got any examples they can paste up of a cv covering letter that i could base mine around?
cheers for any help

A covering letter needs to be exactly that - a letter for introducing your CV to a prospective employer. Best to use a windowed DL envelope, to avoid writing or printing on the envelope - these don't look good. Space your letter to fit nicely when you fold it in 3 to fit in the DL envelope.
Doesn't have to be letterheaded, or anything fancy, just a simple, left justified letter with your address, their address, the date, a polite and appropriate salutation, and a quick (ideally less than four sentences) introduction to yourself. Don't ever forget to sign the letter yourself, and make sure you put 'enc' after your printed name at the end of the letter. This indicates that a) you know how to write a letter, and b) that there is something enclosed with the letter.
Do you know who you're writing to? Chances are not, so your salutation could be "To whom it may concern", and you should close the letter with "Yours faithfully".
When word processing (using a computer to write a letter), don't EVER indent paragraphs - leave a blank line. It's one of the cardinal sins of word processing. Also remember to use a single space after a comma, and to use two spaces after a full stop. Little things like this leave a good first impression.
Get someone else to proof read your letter - you'll miss mistakes that someone else may spot.
Example (make sure you leave 3 blank lines between the "Yours sincerely" and your name, and leave 2 blank lines between the last line of your introduction and "Yours sincerely". Indicate which time of day is best to reach a particular phone number):
