up until 2 weeks ago worked self employed for Home Delivery Network, formally Reality and White Arrow, was on £1 per parcel, on a bad day would do 150 a day, when busy can be 250-300 so money was great, fuel cost approx £100 a week, so was raking it in, then 6 months back they dropped rate to 80p parcel with 2 days notice and work slowed right down to less than 150 parcels a day, so money dropped right off, then 2 weeks ago go sacked because I wrote "BT Please sort this out" into the scanner as had trouble delivering a BT parcel to a shop, they said this was "Ruining the companys Reputation" and that was it, gone, to be honest, they were having to pay employed drivers 10 hours money to do 6-7 hours work, so think it was just an excuse to get rid of us as we was one of only 2 owner drivers in the depot.
Now currently struggling for work, signed up on transport company last week, had 3 days work out of 9 days so far at just £120 per day, a bit worrying, but good to be self employed when its all going well and your in with a good company

How come your costs were so high, i.e. earn 750 and only end up with 275, thats a lot of outgoings

costs are van loan (paid off in full after 3 years), insurance, tax, repairs, tax, paid holiday inc wage for cover, clothing, fuel, national insurance, all repairs, tax, insurance on personal car (goes through accounts) basically every single thing you would pay out and basically get free personal car and all fuel etc. 275 takehome is on 750 a week but as stated 90 per day is norm so more like 375 take home?? i pay myself a basic 275 and bank the rest. obviously have value of van at trade in time which is a nice lump. Pretty fooking good wage for moochin around until 3ish at latest
100.00 for sat 3hrs usually (15-20 drops) but cant be arsed to get out of bed

![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/dannyblackpool/22042008241.jpg)
my weapon of choice....
good money but hard work, really appreciate time after doing this, worst thing i here is "ill just be a minute" .... nightmare!! like to average 12 drops a hour, could get better money wise as currently get a single stop rate for up to 5 parcels then an excess rate there after but may be getting excess rate over 1 parcel which would be cool, fingers crossed....

yup cost 150 think, gotta wear uniform too, basically i look like a employee. you can lease a van and get all repairs inc in fee but then start getting mileage chargin if over cetain amount. better way to go if you dont want to get hands dirty, but obviously costlier.....

where we are if you own your own van all you do is pay for a magnetic sign to go on the side of your van this leaves you free to work freelance for other companies

i think that proper takes the piss, if the company want their logo on YOUR van, they should be paying for it themselves and it should be magnetic so can be taken off when not working for them. And if its YOUR van how can they stop you using it at weekends and stuff, thats so wrong
