Default points!

does anyone have positive knowledge as to how long points stay on your licensce for? i got caught in 2005 speeding with only a povisional (stupidly) and recieved an accumulation of 8 points and a 450 pound fine!

then just 2 weeks ago i got stopped and checked only to find out that my renewed insurance which was only 3 months old had been cancelled due to no proof of my no claims bonus, and i just got a letter yesterday stating a 200 pound fine and an endorsement of 6 points! so id like to find out if the 8 i have just now came off in may 2008 which will be 3 years or may 2009 which will be 4 years?? or am i looking at a ban and a resit of my test!

any help much appreciated as always!

regards!

Stay on your licence for 4 years but they count on insurance for 5.

They only count for 3 years for totting up
But stay on for 4 in case you get an offence near the end of year 3 which may incur points but which is later dealt with in year 4.

So you are O.K, except now you have another 6 points.

i thought no insurance points were active in totting up for 4 years ? speeding and lesser offences are 3 years? drink driving for 10 or 11 years iirc
all points need to be declared for 5 years to insurers.

i was told my premium would rise by 15% for every 3 points gained with an additional 25% lumped on if i passed 12 points and received a ban. my insurer also told me it doesnt drop when the points come off.

I thought you would of had to resit your test if you had 6 or more in the first two years?

but speeding doesnt get you 8 points. wouldnt speeding as a learner with no qualified driver would get you a bonus no insurance charge and the 8 points the o/p mentioned?

believe they are 3 years on licence and 4 years on computer, although insurance companies ask for points in last 5 years .

There is a legal challenge to declaring ANY points on a point of law, specifically human rights law of infringement.
