I always thought you had to work to get somewhere in life, I've done it all, cleaning, bus driving among the seriously poor jobs I have had and I would do much worse if I had to without blinking.. I now have a very well paid job in IT with exceptional conditions. I worked towards getting this, I have no formal qualifications other than knowledge which was gained by hard work and effort.
The problem with this country is it makes it so easy to make excuses. If you have massive debt, here's a radical idea live within your means and save for the things you want.
If you want a better quality of living go out there and make it happen for yourself, do what it takes, do two or three jobs.
I can not help but wonder just how many broke and poverty stricken people on this forum, have a mobile phone, internet connection, Sky TV and so many other essentials
I changed my life, nobody told me I could not !

she aint got some shoe fettish, she likes clothes but not like she used to,,, infact she spends her money on things for me or Elise,, usually Elise so maybe thats why i dont think they cost alot of money
im prob the biggest drain on the family, when she starts work she could leave me and be BETTER OFF without me,,,,, seriously i aint kidding

Even just stuff like clubs at school, and school trips, it all adds up, IF you do that for your kids, fair enough if all you do is provide basic food and shelter then im sure it can be done cheaply.

ive been with her for 9 years, when i met her she had a few quid in the bank which she wasted VERY VERY quickly on silly things,,,, i think thats what changed her as she bought her brother a PS2 and then kept buying him games, bought her sister coppies of all her clothes,,,, oh and she also bought me a ERST AND a escort cabrio when i wrote the ERST off pmsl
she aint bothered with material things at all,,,, shes the BEST parent in the world, seriously is too and she puts up with me,,, does ANYTHING for me such as brings my phone to me when i leave it at home ( 2 busses to get to my work) will deal with the general every day running of the house and other things I dont have time to do ( gets my gym kit ready every morning, warm towels for the shower when i get home,, seriously the things i never notice she does so im VERY VERY lucky i know as i also have a kid whos cheep aswell

I think we've had it too good for too long and now we're paying the price.
How many previous generations had cash to spare at the end of the month to do some of the things you read about on here? My mum and dad both worked when I was growing up and we didn't have some of the luxuries you see plenty of folks with today, I reckon we've been heading for this fall for a long time and now its here.
My guess is if you're struggling now then brace yourself as its only going to get worse before it gets better.

I totally agree. My mum and dad both worked, dad long hours etc but we never had nothing....but we had our own house and a car and apart from a mortgage they owed nothing as the borrowed nothing. I never went abroad till i was 18 our holidays were at relatives or flats in skegness, morecambe etc....but we enjoyed it. People have TOO TOO much now and as soon as the going gets a little tough they moan there arses off slagging the government and talking about TAX like its a new thing. Things at the moment are no where near as mad as the mid eighties early nineties!

Ive got no kids of my own, but my ex did have, so I know the sort of costs involved, even stuff like a day out at legoland ends up being a 100 quid day out for a couple of kids an a couple of adults, it all depends if you want your child to be alive, or if you want your child to actually live an interesting childhood, as a lot of the things kids enjoy doing cost money, more so as they get older.
Even just stuff like clubs at school, and school trips, it all adds up, IF you do that for your kids, fair enough if all you do is provide basic food and shelter then im sure it can be done cheaply.

me and me best mate do a " fathers day" with our kids every 6 to 8 weeks,, just to get our kids to know each other generally aswell as guy bonding with kids,
maybe its cause i just got the one kid perhaps but i wouldnt say there "expensive"

you seem to be arguing again at cross poruposes
one guy who's bought up 2 kids from age 11 over teh past 10 years is going to have to have forked out more money than someone like ginge who hasn't forked out thatmuch for just the one
junior, when he was a little baby, averaged out at about Ł30 a week for the first year, and at about Ł35 a week for the second
the rate he's going tis year he's going to be hitting about the Ł45 a week mark
but i've also got to factor in that fact that he's nappy training so that's going to be a saving for me or about Ł16 a week to go towards something else he'll have decided to take up
i keep acurate records of expenditure so that i can tell him when he's being an ungratefully little cunt about how much he's cost me so far in his life
the same will happen for little madam as she's growing up
but these are the figures for me, from my own pocket, etc, etc, which are going to be totaly different to like likes of those spoilt little fuckers who you see on mtv's 16 program who come out with bollocks such as "i've already got a blue bmw that daddy bought me last year, and for my 16th birthday, i want to buy a pink hummer H3"
i mean, wtf?!?!!?
that twat has spent more money on one kid in one day than i've spent on both of mine in 2.5 years, but if he can afford it, then that's his loss
don't forget them kids that weigh 500 lbs at 15 years old, who pays to feed them when their parents are also broke and on the dole looking like scroungers?
different stroke for different folks
right, now i'm going to go home and see how my mums doing with her nonworking eye, if my brothers sent me that Ł10k he owes me, then to the batcave to see what sort of trouble juior and his sister have got the mrs into
cheerio folks, and don't forget, it's only the internet

whos the rock star that took hes kid to the troops in afganistan to give hes kid a " wake up " call on life
think keeping kids LOWER expectations are better than giving them everything
there was someone whos not gonna give there kid a trust fund but give hes kid double what he earns for the rest of hes life as a incentive to earn more money rather than just be given it,, i SERIOUSLY belive in that type of thing

we are busy at present, probably ok till just before xmas and do have an insurance job that is prob 90% ours by the looks. So not bad mate but i keep hearing of others struggling and not being busy so it does worry you a bit. We have not taken a pay rise this year and are keeping a decent amount in the account in case it goes quiet!

People do take the piss some times
O no I am running out of money
Well maybe what you can do is cut back
Dont nail the mobile phones; do you really need a Holladay in a different country every year? Do you need 2-3-4 cars? Do you need any cars? Do you have to have the wide screen TV DVD Blue ray PS3 surround sound system and sky plus? Cheaper Internet connection? Big house? Digital camera, pub all the time?
You can live really cheap its just most people nowadays cannot be seen without there ipod phone in there Ł100 jeans with there Ł300 gold chain in there car thats not going to be theres for 8 years after the 96 small payments of Ł300 do you really need the top of the range bike or phone or kettle or dish washer? And do you really need these things anyway? Are you going to die if you cannot record live TV?
Every body says yer get a house its guaranteed money in the long run but nothing is ever guaranteed in this world.

as long as the bills are paid then everything else can be done on the very cheap
it might not be as good but it's stillgoing to be cheap
there's a guy at work who says he's worried about the amount of money he's got to pay for his mortgage, then, in the next sentance says he can't stop spending around Ł200 a month on clothes, and his girlfriend is the same
and every ew months they have a clear out and go down the charity shop
don't really want to call him a stupid clueless fucknugget to his face but it's oh so tempting

totally correct. You just have to cut back. Simple.
A LOT of people who are moaning about this credit crunch need to tighten the belts that they shouldnt have stretched in the first place!

there is a simple solution to all this
teach your kids the value of money at an early age snd stop spoiling them
i didn't have a pair of trainers until i was 13 years old, not just branded trainers, any sort of trainers, i went to school for teh first year and did all my sports lesons in plimsols, indoor and outdoor for the simple fact that my dad didn't want to spend have the money the mortgage cost on a pair of trainers that i was only going to get dirty and wear 3 hours a week so there was no justification in it and i had to save every spare penny, and i do mean penny, as in pennies found on the streets while out walking, loose change mum would give me when she was out shopping, treat money, all sorts
and my old man had such an accurate record of money he had a jar with enough coppers and loose change in it to by a paper every weekday, and if the price went up, he'd add a few more pennies to it (the old man is a calculating genius when it coems to money, i shit you not) and he would know if we'd been dipping into it or not, so we didn't or else we'd get a paddling
another famous saying my old man likes to preach:
"dad, can i have a tenner please?"
"you come to me asking for Ł10, expecting Ł5, you need Ł3, so here's Ł1"
the simple thing that people should do is reach into their pockets to find cash money for the itmes they want to purchase, if they find they don't have enough, they don't buy it
teach your kids the value of money at an early age snd stop spoiling them

another famous saying my old man likes to preach:
"dad, can i have a tenner please?"
"you come to me asking for Ł10, expecting Ł5, you need Ł3, so here's Ł1"
the simple thing that people should do is reach into their pockets to find cash money for the itmes they want to purchase, if they find they don't have enough, they don't buy it

Now that made me chuckle.
Ginge, it's PAID, not paied.
It's no good, reading about all you hard working folks I have to get me a second job, anyone want to babysit my two kids whilst I'm out driving ( I cannot afford to pay of course)
Quite how Ginge reckons kids are not expensive is beyond my imagination, mine cost me a bloody fortune, they are only 3 & 4.

kids start costing more when they want to show off to their mates, and have the latest toys, and the latest designer clobber, and the latest barbie dolls and the best bike and th ebest games for their psp's and all sorts of other shit
the other kids ripped the solid piss out of me for wearing plimsols while playing football and rugby and the school were insistant that i wear them ni case my feet got hurt, but the old man said "you want him to wear them, you buy him a set then" so i sat out a lot of outdoor activities
what kids fail to realise is that after school, there is a big wide world out there and no one will give a fuck if you were the most popular kid in your class witht he shinest shoes and the neatest creases, they want to know what you can offer them and for the lowest price you'll enslave yourself, nothng else matters, so if you don't have to pimp yourself up everytime you step out of the shower to give you "confidence" you are saving not just money, but time and effort too
don't use deodarent ebcause you'd rather save the money and have a shower? the 99p can of spray will cost youless that the shower and levvy and gas bills, so shower every other day and see the money get saved, ask the employer to ofer you a uniform, and then ask for cleaning vouchers to get it cleaned, there are millions of ways to save money, and if, at the end, someone calls you a bit pikey for it, you just have to accept it

My ex's sister was particuarly bright, always straight a's etc, she had a bit of trouble with bully's at school, and one thing I pointed out to here is that the "cool kids" at school will be the ones valet parking her car for her or cleaning her hotel room in a few years time when she's a high flying lawyer or whatever
