Looks like we're gonna need ANOTHER Sky HD box......ARGH!!!
Got up this morning switched Sky box on and up came the dreaded Blue Screen of Death!! Tried all ways to get the box to update, but everytime we switched it back on it was just the same.
So we rang Sky and they are going to send an engineer out on Wednesday to try and fix it.
Found this thread on AVForums but we can't reach the HDMI cable at the back of the TV as it's wall mounted and I'm not strong enough to help Scott take the TV off the wall so can't see if it would work or not.

You have no idea how annoying it is, I had no problems at all with my normal Sky box. Had it for years without ever needing to reboot it, download new software etc etc. This just takes the mick to be honest and still Sky don't think that there is a problem with Sky HD boxes. I was told by the 'nice' lady on the phone today that Sky have over 8 million customers who are very satisfied with the service they receive but unfortunately I was one of the unlucky ones who kept getting dodgy boxes.
Wow that made me feel really special

What TV fo you have? My 42" lcd is only 25kg. I put it up myself and I'm a 7 stone weakling. (well 10stone weakling)
Depending on the type of mounting, you may be able to lift the bottom of the tv away from the wall enough to just access the cables.

I would double check the connection at the TV (especially as it's free to do) as not long after I got my PS3, I got a blue screen on the telly, turned out the hdmi connection had moved for some reason.
From what I've read on the AVforum, just about everybody has problems with their HD boxes.

Echo Stu's post. There can be NO benefit to unplugging any cable at the TV end unless it is a fault at the TV end connection. If it is a box problem, then unplugging at the TV won't make any difference. I would wager that if user on AVForums hadn't have unplugged the HDMI at the TV but done everything else, it would have still worked.
Have you tried the proceedure, minus unplugging at the TV, as laid out on AVForums? Might be worth a shot....
If I was closer I'd pop over and have a look for you, but it's about 450miles each way, so I won't

Agree, was on the phone to them the other week looking about changing from VM to Sky, when I asked what the script is should the box throw a wobbly as VM will replace the box FOC as long as I aint tried shagging it or owt, they said the boxes dont break and would not commit to an answer when i repeatedly asked 'What if itr did?'
VM is where its at, I think

Cheers guys. We did try everything apart from the HDMI lead to the TV and still nothing, the BSOD was still there. So we're now watching sky from my old sky box which is just the basic one which I've had for over 6 years. It's been sat in the garage since we got our HD box and when it was all plugged in and connected it worked perfectly straight away. Only thing is we have lost the remote so we're getting some exercise everytime we want to change the sky channel
We'll wait and see what the Sky engineer says on Wednesday when he comes out. I can guarantee that the HD box will come out of its tantrum and work straight away when the engineer is here (typical) and they'll leave me with the faulty box just for it to break again.
Well at least I'm not paying for Sky until they fix the problem, the 'nice' lady at sky said they would be crediting my account for the services lost because of the box. I'm spoilt rotten aren't I

It's a 50" Panasonic Viera thingy, normally I would be able to help him lift it off the wall but I'm 8 months pregnant so shouldn't really be lifting stuff that heavy at the mo. You can tilt the TV on the mounting so far but just not far enough to reach the HDMI lead, Typical eh!!

Believe me if we could switch to VM or cable we'd be off like a shot. The prospect of having to have a 5th box and then loads of problems with that one really doesn't fill me with the joys of summer
The 'nice' lady at Sky did say that another manufacturer was going to start supplying Sky HD boxes. Aparently she said that they only have Thompson at the moment but in about a months time they will be launching another box made by Samsung (I think that was the manufacturer, but don't hold me to that) which if my problems persisted I could request one of the new ones.
We'll wait and see

billship,
i have gone through 9 boxs in the last 15months........
hints
turn off the auto switch off
keep box cool, nothing above or below
it will die as there is an intrinsic fault with the psu(power supply unit)
satcure(on the net) will supply an upgraded unit for about Ł50.then fit yourself or a handy electronics buddy.
if sky replace your box you will get some one else broken one which has had a new psu fitted(shame dodgy type)this will last 12/15 months as well.
best o luck
