Best go tell all the Top Time Attack boys that the R888' are crap....
Do it BEFORE they go sailing past the Escort though
![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Yes you are right... Good job the Time Attack top boys are only running 800bhp+ though...
if they tried to run any proper BHP they could well be in trouble!

Whislt we are stating the obvious, may I point out that this
![](https://img127.imageshack.us/img127/5346/concorde11iz.jpg)
is a faster plane than this
![](http://utenti.quipo.it/colettisb/vc_08/WrightBrothersPlane.jpg)

R888's are a superb trackday road legal tyre at a great price. THE END.
There are better available... Dunlops direzzas for example and the Michelin Pilot sport cups perhaps but the R888's ARE good and are great value.
Yes a slick is better... but as I said thats fooking obvious
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Hearing great things about the Hankook trackday tyre by the way. Anyone used these?

dont they HAVE to run a road tyre and 888's happen to be the best road tyre just not up to standards of slicks as we were told when we got them they are the best tyre around !
we find them really good martin we use pirelli and are a really grippy tyre when hot and last a good time too![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

I don't want anyone reading this thread walking away with the impression that the 888 is not a good tyre for track use because that is not the case. I have these on both of my cars
![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Going back to these Pirelli slicks, I'm sure Harvey told me they were part worns previously used on Porsche track cars?

I doubt that anyone would have told you that 888's give as much grip as slicks in bone dry conditions BUT as lots of track days do not allow them then the 888 becomes ideal. On the flip side put some water on the track and then compare the two!!

the pireeli's that we use are a rally slick we use a hard compound and they are verygood also tyhey are only a 225 so for the size they perform well
porkie 888's may well be fine for you and many many others but as i said it is our opinion we dont like then but each tpo there own and all that !!

I just think what you said originally was a bit silly mate and could give people the wrong impression. Glad you seem to be changing your tune and will try them again and try and experiement with the pressures.
![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)
Facts are there are Time Attack cars running more power that will lap ALOT faster than the escort using R888's.... SO slagging the tyres off in the way you did was a bit harsh in my opinion. I don't wanna take anything away from Harveys car either because I REALLY REALLY like it and its clearly very fast
They ARE a very good road legal trackday tyre at very good prices!

no mate.... what you said was this.
and this
and there seems to be a small stewards enquiry as to exactly what pressures you had in them and you were comparing them with slicks!

we actually did try them at correct pressure i never knew this when i first posted as i was too busy chatting at FF
![Red Faced](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
he commented that if anything it had made them worse as he said on here
id also like to clarify we were comparing them with 225 part worn pirelli rally slicks not full slick tyres as we have never had full slicks on the car . . yet
![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
to be fair i probably was a bit harsh it how i put my/HG's feeling across and should have said in my opinion first of all

I tend not to get involved in these hear say debates but the fact remains when I walked passed Mikes car yesterday I thought he had 4 slow punctures, I asked how the car was running and when he said its sliding all over the place I couldnt help but think hed be better of running with no tyres. His storm trooper helmet may have affected the cars handling with the pendulum effect he was suffering with ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
The R888 requires many factors to find the optimum settings and I dont think these were met on Mikes car, for example what was tyre temperature across the tread inside middle and outside? Were you getting a hot psi reading of 40 degrees have you considered Nitrogen to try stabilise the temperatures and find the balance?
Sorry Mike but you were an easy target
BTW the cars looked great on track besides your tyre issues
Cheers, Warren

I was thinking of nitrogen and how I could do this, as I have a couple of bottles of it at work

It's all trial and testing my friend ![Wink](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
I was up at Snetterton for one reason lastweek and it wasn't to see you, I was getting readings of 40 on the left of the car and 32 on the right rear
across the tyre was spot on for +1 degree of camber but Brands I need more
I have my settings for Brands but they go out the window if the temps are too low or high it just depends on the day, it how quick you get to the magic numbers that matters ask any F1 team![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Sadly I don't have them resources
The info comes from Toyo direct

Also with Nitrogen I know I can run 5psi more in the tyre on a hot day, I'd rather have air in the tyre than not anyday....... Wouldn't you?

We found at Snet that you needed to start with about 22psi in 888's to get them to a suitable pressure, after 12 or so laps they were upto 28-29 and stayed that way all day.
Any more or less than that and the car felt loose, I do find them v good on some tracks and not great on others, however at rockingham for example they didn't last at all, but then no road tyre would either.
Can't fault them for the money but you do need to know a little about them before you use them or you won't get the most from them, we learnt the hard way but they seem to be lasting now and the grip is there
