The only person that I can think of is Ian Sibbert. He has a resto post - I'll see if I can find it .

I was thinking Ian may be able to help.

I appreciate everyones concern over these mounts you have Mike but tbh the works ones look to fit the same imo and I'm guessing Ford Motorsport got it right.

I'll leave you to dig through pics whilst i'm on my dial up connection

Looking at the pictures, although they mount on the top, they look like they mount how I suggest as a remedy to Chip's queries - as in with a hex bolt and nut arrangement .

This is all explained and criticised in great detail on the original post, where a simple change of bolting arrangement resolves all issues mentioned, but that wouldn't make a good PF drama .

Jonny,

The turrets are constructed on the bench, with captive nuts tigged to the underside then the whole turret assembley is welded to the car.....

are they also higher than standard

i can see what you mean about welded, as you can see in the pics

how much difference does it make with them being higher if they are

The reason they raise the height of the turret is to increase suspension travel, the purely tarmac WRC cars also had the inner arches raised to give more clearance with the lower ride height.

Like all things on a well designed suspension arrangement, when it is worked in correctly it makes a massive difference.

The modification would be fine on a track car, overkill perhaps but it'd work well...at the end of the day most track cars dont need the level of suspension travel a rally needs as you're not subjecting the car to undulating and changeable surfaces, long suspension travel ensures a car rides the bumps well without hitting the bump
-stops and ensures you have good control over the whole range ie high and low speed compression as well as re-bound....

Even some of the cheaper kits available now offer superior control over those parameters so correctly tuned should give a driver extra speed and quicker lap times....

I used a pair of WRC top mount bearings on my car , i got sick of the crappy TAS style eccentric bearings falling apart so i milled the centre out of the flat aloy plate and let the WRC parts into them with a set of top hats to space it up , seems to work ok .

Fukc me , my car , lol !

As for how much , the risers are probably about £500 the pair , plus the welding , the WRC bearings are about £800 a pair ( from memory ) plus any sundries that is .
The additional height also allows the Tarmac spec cars to run low enough without running out damper travel , a problem that the GpA bodies induce !

they are not exact copies, same principle and same geometry, but i cant have them madw unless im haveing four sets done at a atime, and thats just for the plates, the bearing carriers I cant do, the tube that the bearing sits in i did myself, and no time to do anymore imafraid. I only have one set left and they are my spares.

the pukka WRC items do come up for sale on ebay, that last top mount i saw without bearing carrier went for about £70 iirc, so used price for a full top mount will be about £200 ish a corner i reckon.

lol - for £800 a set i would find the time to remake them !!

try ringing dewitts, they will have them.

That's fair enough mark, didn't realise they were so involved,

Who are dewitts? Never heard of them? The set on the a1 focus were originals sp prob sourced a while back from a specialist breaker

dewitts bought all the ford motorsport stuff leftover from the wrc projects (and alot more besides) they have enough stuff to build approx 3 new WRC escorts, and they re-produce the obsolete stuff for them, but be warned, you are going to be paying WRC prices its a bit like 'group a' only a lot more exotic

I won't even enquire then, as it's a waste of time lol, have to just go for some eccentric new style items like on ratboys rs turbo etc unless I can source them for a good price,

thanks
