Default Engine re-build time!

I am thinking of taking the engine out of my saff, and giving it a good going over as it has done a fair few miles, and prevention is better than cure..

Currently it's on T4 850cc's, cosworth forged pistons at 7.2:1 I belive, and a lightly ported head, std cams followers etc.

The Question is, do I change the spec, or leave it alone? Was thinking maybe solid lifters and a serious port job on the head, some uprated cams (unsure on spec?) rollerbearing T4 with a maram shaft etc, or do I put on my GT35 or swap it for a GT30?

Ideally would be well over 500Bhp with hopefully equal amounts of torque and lots of response...

Looking at Std geometry at the moment, but have H section rods to go in etc.

Decisions a Wil.

Seriously mate, they're questions only you can answer really mate.. do you track the car or is it just road use??

Isn't a GT35 abit overkill for road use if that's all is intended and if it's just 500 odd bhp you're after then surely the GT30, or T4 will do the job..

Only my 2 penneth worht bud..........

I know what you are saying, but I already have a brand new GT35 sat on my shelf , the cheap option would be a "top and tail" as Mike R calls it, new shells, rings, followers etc, check all the tolerences, quick port and polish and a set of cams, and get MSD to check it, and fit ALS etc as I have a nice WRC ported throttle body etc and the wild ALS idle valve.

Medium option is fit the mechanical followers and cams etc, still on the T4 with the above work, just to stretch the power band a bit.

Expensive option is to fit the GT30/35 with all the external stuff, and go for 550+ as the car already has closed loop/ wasted spark etc so is well prepared for it.

Or leave the head ports small, and aim for Rods old spec, 500/500 which must be an awsome drive?

Well if it were me and i was lucky enough to have a GT35 sitting around Wil i'd have to use it.. i couldn't bare looking at it sat there.

Give it a try fella with option after the medium one..........may aswell do it once & do it right Wil.. and then give me a ride in it...

I'm gonna go GT30 STILL on the 205 block... real tears..

yup, but I knew that anyway, when I bought the car the AP's went, and I have not really driven it since as T4+ 7" rear diff, and std brakes is not a good idea, I had the car for a song so couldn't really complain.

Almost mate, waiting for mate to come back off hols to re-fit side skirts and the prop, then it's away for running in, get the suspension set up, get the car to pro-alloy for an intercooler to be made, then off to Stu's

tbh i dont think you will get 500 bhp and 500lbft unless your gonna run stupid boost
id go t4 hydralics, ported head, cams, 6stud, and wrc gasket this will give you a nice reliabe 500 bhp with 32 psi so not ringing its neck
and i also dnt think it will be ultra responsive but the ballbearing t4 isnt tooo bad

not worth going for solids to stretch the powerband a bit? T4 is just waking up at 7.5k

T4 with 4 big injectors std compression with bd16in bd14out double valve springs and 26mm inlet and 25mm exhaust ports, wrc gasket on wrc long stud with 2.2bar all the way.AWESOME,but would probably be a nicer drive on the road on a GT30 but never tried one.
