Default Noisy tappets after high revs

Now I have never had problems with holding the car at high revs(over 7k) before but on the rollers on Thursday and on the road tonight I can actually hear what sounds like noisy tappets for a minute or so after a some spirited driving (160+).

I know this is prob just the need to move to solid lifters but why is it doing now after all these years?

Oil temps are never above 90 even though it is very warm tonight.

Thoughts and ideas?

they have a short life at the rpm you like to give the car stick a new set in or go solid

you'd better stick some 1.8 diesel lifters in there

Could be little ends starting to wear. My last one sounded very similar to that.

Can also hear a slight noise from maybe a tensioner or something too for a second.

Euan how long you been running with these lifters in mate?

Solids would be the way to go in your car I guess, anything that revs high and spends a lot of time up there will kill hydraulics fairly quickly.

Do you notice a drop in power/missfire as well?

Solid is the only way to go IMO. We've had to do it on all the engines that are rev'in high. (non cossy)

car did "only" make 465 ATW onthe rollers but so might be a slight drop in power.

no misfires at all.

i found my 2wd did this and i traced the cause back to the oil pump gasket was flawed and sucking in air ....
which in turn causes air in said tappets instead of oil lol...
i now always use some gasket goo along with gasket just to aid the sealing
regards

i used to get this on the rally car after a long stage, the things i found out through trial and error - do not use synthetic oils, only use good quality mineral oil and i changed it after every event - about 60 flat out stage miles and maybe 100 or so road miles, and change the filter with every change, this seamed to stop it, though i did go to solid lifter eventually, as will the new engine be on solids.

not really pratical to change it that often on a road car tho IMO

perhaps not, but put it into perspective about how many hard road miles you do and adjust accordingly, you probably do no more than a mile at a time with your foot flat in every gear, in our cas across a 60 mile stage 100% throttle at max revs happens very often mate
